Say it with me, friends:

It's not actually the process that you think is wrong, it's the outcome.

Hey there & brain trust:

The NE leg of this intersection has a signalized w/ beg button. Town staff just converted it to rest-in-walk, which is lovely. But there's a permissive yellow that allows drivers from the arterial to turn left while the sign is active.

We may have the option to* either*:

  • keep the rest-in-walk
    or
  • eliminate the permissive yellow but lose the rest-in-walk

WWYD?

@DrTCombs So much ugh, which i dont' think i need to point out.

Everything left in its current ugh state, i vote keep rest-in-walk. crosswalk users already have to navigate to that misplaced ramp, and have good opportunity to see permissive turning drivers. And if the ramps are that bad, i assume buttons are also awkward.

@DrTCombs such a big span of road to allow permissive lefts

@DrTCombs oh, so there's a weird open-parentheses trail ramp into a median too? lots to love here.

The worst part about blooski is not that people are mean and traumatized from years on late twitter but that when i go on there I start feeling a little mean and traumatized myself

I'm glad people are starting to realize that there are gendered differences in how people use public space.
But can we please stop talking about women on bicycles as "indicator species" and instead start making sure our planning and engineering decision-making processes ensure everyone has a voice? All ages, all genders, all abilities. Is that too much to ask?

I am not an indicator species. I am a person.

bikepedantic,
@bikepedantic@transportation.social avatar

@DrTCombs it's a really tacky cringey analogy

I feel like at any given moment there is a general ambient morale on greater Mastodon (the section of the fediverse I'm connected with). I'm usually pretty in sync with it. Right now I get the sense that we're generally feeling pretty good about our prospects. A couple weeks ago it definitely felt like a trough. It would be funny if we could graph these mood swings a la @mastodonusercount

One word that has become ubiquitous that I rage against every time I see it is “content”

I write and make art and I will never ever use this word to flatten and homogenize what I create

calling it all content is a good way for capital to pivot to content farms and then to AI for it

bikepedantic,
@bikepedantic@transportation.social avatar

@seachanger now is the winter of our dissing 'content'

Here we go! Separated Bike Lanes on Higher Speed Roadways. Wooooot.

@wordshaper Or here: If this ridiculous road got repaved, and they could nip/tuck a few feet to add a buffer and flexposts to these bikelanes, the additional induced ridership would be minimal. They should still do it to improve the safety of the few people using it now.

This road should be fundamentally better, the surrounding land use should be better, but it's unethical for us to wait for the whole world to change to be safer. @DrTCombs @pedbikeinfo
