I am trying to finish my assignment that's due tonight and Waltz #2 (XO) by Elliot Smith starts playing in my shuffle. I was not ready to start crying! This is not the time spotify?

Every couple of months I get slightly annoyed by Zotero and look for other reference managers and come to the conclusion that others are far more buggy!

Why don’t we have a reference manager that’s more — modern? Why can’t I take notes like I would in a good text editor? The way to add notes is clunky, I can’t easily see what papers have cited the current paper? Generating notes from my annotations is always not intuitive? Am I missing something here?

Nothing makes you realise that your music taste indeed isn’t unique at all, but product of all the internet subculture you grew up on during your teenage years, other than looking at your Spotify wrapped.

I have just two modes of operation:

  1. Healthy sleep schedule but not checking off all things on my to do list.
  2. Executing too many parallel ideas, being an internet goblin till 3am and have just 6% battery left on all my devices!
aspiringcat, to infosec

I’ve been thinking of posting more about the new things I am reading related to either #InfoSec or #Cryptography. This is mostly just for me to document things!

Since I post a lot of random stuff on here with anything and everything that pops up in my mind, I thought it’d be more suitable for me to create an account that’s more specific to that. @meghana :))

I’ve been studying and researching in applied cryptography for last 6 months. It’s new, scary, fascinating, fun and terrifying all at the same time! I can’t totally explain the amount of back and forth I keep going through with my confidence level about this subject.

So reaching out to people in #cryptography and #AppliedCryptography or #InfoSec on #mastodon! I wanna know more about your work and research and talk to other people in the community to know more and understand!

Someone: 2016 was 8 years ago not 4!

Me: Numbers are made up. Years are made up. It’s a social construct. We can all collectively be delusional and say it’s 2020. Let’s retcon last 4 years?

Me after I’ve jumped between a million topics, at least eight sidetracks and brought up Shannon for no real reason in a meeting with my supervisors:

Lately I’ve been feeling like everything that used to take me just hours to do when I was 20 takes 5x more time now that I’m closer to 25. Even something like doing laundry? The most frustrating part is the time it takes in understanding and learning new concepts and keeping up with latest tech. Normally I’d laugh it off but now I’m honestly curious why the some things that used to be “No thoughts, just act” feel so much more overwhelming as you grow older?

aspiringcat,

@fkamiah17 another 25 years of doing laundry? Will I have found a better way of prioritising tasks by then??

aspiringcat,

@fkamiah17
Hahah, I guess in terms of prioritisation, I need to start getting comfortable with not being efficient (and realising that’s not a bad thing? I guess??)

Laundry however, that’s a hill I’m ready to die on. I am going by the assumption that at least in next 25 years there would be some innovation in the way we do laundry(or maybe even the cloths and fabric) — I really hope so because why’s it so time consuming right now??

aspiringcat,

@fkamiah17 Ahahhahahahah. Why do I relate to someone from 13th century so much

At this rate I am gonna very quickly make everyone question about their decision about GenZ in #academia by making way too many internet references 💀

Reading Log: Rereading this book because I can’t still get over how important so many things that Sara Ahmed says in this book are and I need to keep a highlighter and notepad handy while reading this.

I’ve been making a lot of not-getting-cryptography jokes here lately but honestly the way my advisor explained a simplest secret sharing representation blew my mind. Why did I not know this before??

Your secret function is a line y=mx+c and your secret is value of y at x=0. Each party has one point from the line. Individually, with just one point there can be numerous lines passing through that point but only when they come together, they can compute the secret.

How’s the studying for tomorrow’s exam going?

Me: So I cleaned my room. Did laundry. Washed dishes. Organised my cupboard. Replied to all email — soo

Hey #productivity community on #fediverse,

Been struggling a lot lately with sticking to any todo-list / personal task management. Any tips you have that’s worked for you for a long time?

It took forever to get back in track! Love that I’m finally able to read as much as I planned🥹

Recently I’ve can’t get enough of Chuck Palahniuk! His books are crazy and I love it. Definitely was loved Invisible Monsters and Dammed.

#GoogleIO revealed the two weirdest features as a pair.

  1. Give a short summary and Google will draft an e-mail for you based on it. You can even click "elaborate" and it will make the e-mail longer.

  2. When opening an e-mail, Gmail can summarize the entire thing for you so you don't have to read all of it.

Does everyone realize how fucking bizarre this is?

Both people in the conversation want to work with directness and brevity, and Google is doing textual steganography in the middle.

aspiringcat,

@rodhilton Orwell is probably rolling his eyes at these new developments. Also probably everyone who worked in early Information Theory 🥲

Can anyone play the devil’s advocate here and explain why this might be useful? Maybe the audience who 2 is meant for aren’t the same people using 1?

The most annoying thing is remembering a show you watched as a kid and having no way to find it again.

Like you remember the story so vaguely that googling returns no results, searching Wikipedia for all the fantasy kids' shows at that time gives no results.

So now you are wondering if the show existed or if you made the whole memory up.

aspiringcat,

Putting the plot here because hope is a thing with feathers:

Two kids get a new computer (an old CRT monitor one) and assemble it, but they realise the mouse is missing.

Later they find out that it's a magic computer and the mouse is like -- a magical talking mouse (like an animal mouse that can speak), and the episodes follow the mouse taking them to different magical places inside the computer, which also teach them lessons to the problems they were facing in their daily life.

#Introduction
Most of my personality is constantly talking about #cats ❤️ I’m an obsessive reader and tend to gravitate towards #scifi, #LiteraryFiction, and #HistoricalFiction. I'm always open to recommendations, so do drop me a line from your fav books!

I’m a ML Engineer and worked with ML in #InfoSec and #NLP. Recently I’ve been really excited to about #privacy and #security in #ML inferences.

In my free time I make #DigitalArt though not as consistent with them. Here’s some of them:
