“IGN Entertainment acquires Eurogamer, GI, VG247, Rock Paper Shotgun and more

New owner makes redundancies across the Gamer Network portfolio”

Woooow. There’s so few independent sites left, most major sites are now under the same roof.

Why does every secure messaging app have to use your phone number?

We already have a thing that's relatively anonymous, easy to burn, anyone online has, and can be used for contacting people: a fucking email.

My phone number is already filled with spam, I don't need a stupid "secure" messager leaking it because I didn't do a dozen steps to hide it :middle_finger_clw_k1:

@capital and this is why i tolerate matrix' crap. At least its not selling my number to scam callers.

Had fun in Tampere. Despite the numerous problems at i still had a good time cosplaying and being silly.

I made people laugh and entertained by just being.. Well, my weird self. And that made everything worth it. Seeing kids go excited when i waved at them while being 2m tall lizardman was really fun and heartwarming.

I think being a lizard IRL is my hobby now. I really want to do this more.

There's small con at our city... So maybe.. :D

Ok folks.

Is using static always evil or is having something like game state (paused, running, in menu etc) inside a static variable ok?

Or do i have to pass it around everywhere?

If you are a developer, I want to talk to you about:

  • How can COSMIC apps better fit in when running a Plasma session
  • How can KDE apps better fit in when running a COSMIC session

Please feel free to reply or DM!

aks,
@aks@scalie.zone avatar

@soller i believe its often enough that the colors match.

We have our kcolorscheme system that can be used to colorize any KDE app. When it comes to KDE apps on Cosmic, perhaps Cosmic can generate such a file from its own colors and tell KDE apps to use it by default.

The other way around i dont know, but if Cosmic also has similar style color theming, we can generate same kind of files. We already generate a GTK theme :)

Heres some info about kcolorscheme, i can look for more if interested https://api.kde.org/frameworks/kcolorscheme/html/classKColorScheme.html

You can also download any colorscheme file to see what theyre like, pretty much regular INI files.

@soller sweet, so as long as we can tell the apps system wide what colorscheme to use, we can just generate one on the fly. And i think you can do the same for our apps, if i recall correctly its one "rc" file in ~/.config where we place the current colorscheme name and all the apps read it from there.

Sorry my memory is a bit hazy about this side but feel free to hop in any of our matrix chats or ask in our mailing list(s) when the time comes :)

Every time i have to have the conversation where opt-out telemetry by default is not consent i lose a piece of my already splittered soul.

I dont care about what the data is used for. Just respect your fucking users. Theyre more than numbers in your graphs.

It's a bummer that to get best experience you gotta set up your own server because then you can finally use bridges and other tools that actually work, and you can also disable encryption by default.

aks,
@aks@scalie.zone avatar

You can also disable encryption completely which honestly most people would be fine with.

I don't understand why I can't encrypt only the messages I want to be encrypted. Why does it have to be either/or thing?

Would be cool if I could talk without encryption but if I talk about something very personal I could encrypt that post and give the key to read it to anyone who wishes to see it (if I allow it).
