Hello! We have some new wafrn updates!

First of all, notification date check comes from the database and not from the client. This means that if you open wafrn in another device your notification count wont be A GAZILLION BILLION unlike before.

Also, we have updated how we add images and they will be always added at the end of the post. This is done to help to make our posts more compatible with the fedi apps like mastodon and other stuff. Now you can also have a preview of the images that you are uploading, and in the case of videos, you can also see when the video has been fully processed :D

Hello everyone, we have a new cool and very important feature!

Now when you visit another user profile, you can MUTE them or BLOCK them!

So, is @gabboman cluttering the local explore for you? You can just mute him! if he mentions you you will recive the notifications, and you could see the posts on your dashboard if you follow him, but no more in the local explore tag!

You can manage who you follow and who you have blocked in your settings, now it has some new pages!

We are working on some rough edges on the user2user blocks, and a "block server" functionality, that would allow you to block every interaction with a server if you chose to. We still encourage you to fill a report and message your admin (this account or @gabboman ) and tell us about the problem. If you tell us, we can protect everyone here by fully blocking the user and/or the server at the instance level.

New wafrn fix! Now when you are answering to a fedi post that got to your feed from a wafrn reblog, it will answer to the original poster instead to the wafrn reblogger

New feature just dropped: CUSTOM CSS. This custom css will apply in your whole wafrn experience.

It will also apply to the people who visit your profile! They will get a popup asking if they'd like to enable custom user generated CSS, and once they go for it, they will witness your blog in all its glory, with your custom CSS.

If you'd like to do this, there are a few things you must know:

• Images and fonts will only load from media.wafrn.net and the cache server. So if you'd like to use an image as background for something, you must upload it to wafrn first. You can create a post with the image, and you can copy the url from there
• Right now we dont have any, but if you want any custom font you can let us know and we will upload it to the resources page
• This feature might break some things in the future but we will do our best to avoid it. But please, avoid extreme custom modifications on the notifications page, since it might recive a big change at some point in the next few weeks

Here is an example CSS that will change the background of the page:

Evil news everyone! We might have fixed the issues with pleroma and akkoma. Our posts sent to *oma users will no longer fall into the void! I would like to thanks the akkoma people on the irc, specially Helene. They were really patient with my stupidly malformed json-ld and helped me to make it less wrong! :D

My work is not perfect yet, and our post might appear as "in response to nothing" during this moment. This will be fixed in the near future.

Also we have fixed the issue of the drunk user seeing two youtube previews instead of one. We have made you less drunk and now its fixed

Thanks to the user @stelin41 for disclosing a security vulnerability in wafrn.

The private key of each user that was used to sign messages into the fediverse was being leaked and thanks to his email we were able to detect the issue and fix it.

All rsa keys are bein regenerated right now.

How bad is the issue?

Well, someone could have forged a request with your username on it. Now its fixed and wont happend because the key for the signature is a new one.

The key was being leaked on one of the original petitions previous to the fediverse, in wich we told the server "do not send this data". the data to not send grew and that function was not updated.

We fixed it by replacing (everywhere) the "do not send this data" for a "only send this data".

long story short: I did something wrong, something bad could have happened but @stelin41 told me of the issues and I fixed it.

New wafrn update!

We have removed our dependency on google captcha and the youtube player!

We now use a rate-limiter for posts and registrations and login attemps, so no need to have the invisible captcha.

Also regarding youtube, who did watched a youtube video inside wafrn? Not me and probably not you! The new system will open youtube in a new tab and depending on your phone, open the youtube app.

We have TWO big updates! Number one, to make a mention we just start writing @ in the editor and magic happends!

Second one, tags now GO to the fediverse!

The way tags work is simple: if you write "oh today was a really long day and I am tired", at the end of your post it will add "#oh-doday-was-a-really-long-day-and-you-know-the-drill", and if other users click that hashtag it will take them to hell wafrn, where they will be able to see all posts with that hashtag :D

Dear wafrn people! We have added an image CDN.

I know I promised I would use all my donations from patreon to buy fried chicken and french fries, but in this case, given the fact of the fediverse doing a lot of image and video traffic, I've decided to use a bit of money on that instead.

I've gone for bunnyCDN, and I paid 10 bucks in advance. i think its going to be something like 10 bucks every few months, so with current donations all is good no worries on that.

BUTT, I've been testing stuff, and I need to say that there is the posibility of small bugs today and or tomorrow. I am trying to optimize it as much ass possible so maybe we get some images pointing to another ones.

No worries on this.

I've done the cdn thing because after posting small videos, we have to send the video to EVERY HOST WE KNOW OF. And that is like A LOT of data, so we've (I've) decided to pay for a proper CDN, even if its some money.

The election has been bunnycdn, wich seems good enough. It has no history of actively supporting kiwifarms, so that's a plus.

I will do some improvements to the UI and the backend soon too ;D

Three new things on the post uploader:

We now accept webp and mov files from iphones, but this kind of file will be limited to 7 minutes of video.

Reason being the infinite webp and stuff like that. This is a temporary measure

Now files can be UP TO 50 MB!!!

And finally, now you have to click upload, so please, use this new time to describe the images correctly

Ok some internal changes have been made

Before, wafrn was mostly executed in your browser, but now its send preprocessed from the server.

How is this going to affect you as an user and why did i do it?

Well, first let's start with the why: Now you can send a wafrn link via discord, whatsapp, telegram or whatever and if the app allows it a preview ill appear!

that was not possible before! I think that would help wafrn to expand a little bit quicker.

How will you be affected by this? Microcuts of a minute when updating the page is the biggest thing, BUT they wont be very common. They have been today because I was toying with stuff actually. The only thing that might change is the initial load. Now when you open a link to a post, the page is totally build in the server, unlike before, that your computer only recived a "list of instructions on how to build the page". That page and the blog page will be a little bit slower to the initial load, the rest you wont notice a thing!
