Thanks, everyone, for your feedback on our recent voter affirmation email to members. We will take your suggestions into account, and make things clearer where possible. It will take a little time to fix the more time-consuming things because our staff is currently in GO mode for PyCon US! Thank you for your patience. (1/3)

We are working to address the various issues people are running into. A couple of different things are going on, but so far we have addressed:

  • The psf-donations@pyfound.org address that some people received a delivery failure from is now working.
  • We are responding to folks’ emails and helping people resolve any issues with their accounts.

A couple more election and member related notes:

  • If you were expecting to get an email from us about voter affirmation and you didn't, please check your old alias and/or spam folder. If you still don't see anything, email us and we'll look into it.
  • If you are a Contributing or Managing member, please create an account on psfmember.org and send us an email so we can merge your account with our record of your membership.

@ThePSF Hey, when is PSF Member Lunch?

The topic came up, and only one person out of eight (including your next PyCon US Chair) didn't get one. I didn't have it either. We also looked on the schedule and didn't see it?

@webology Thanks, everyone on the thread, for your feedback! We will take your suggestions into account for next year.

ThePSF,
@ThePSF@fosstodon.org avatar

@webology The good news is that there are 31 seats still available for the Members Lunch. The steps to add it to your registration are a little fiddly, unfortunately, which we hope to improve for next time.

ThePSF,
@ThePSF@fosstodon.org avatar

@webology Here’s how to get a seat this year:

  • Go to your PyCon US dashboard (https://us.pycon.org/2024/accounts/dashboard/)
  • Click "Add to your registration"
  • Click "Apply voucher code"
  • Enter the voucher code in the field and click "Apply Voucher Code"
  • It will take you back to the add to your registration page, and the Members Lunch option should be under "Available items"
ThePSF,
@ThePSF@fosstodon.org avatar

@webology You can find the voucher code & more info here: https://discuss.python.org/t/pycon-us-2024-launches/37740/12

If you are still having issues getting a seat, please email pycon-reg@python.org, and someone can assist you.

We do our best to get any PSF Member specific info out on psf-members-announce, so be sure to subscribe there! https://mail.python.org/mailman3/lists/psf-members-announce.python.org/

Been hearing from a lot of folks that asked for financial assistance for #PyCon that they only got online passes.

They also mention that asking for more funds could make them lose the funding they were originally allotted.

@ThePSF can there be some transparency on how decisions for funding are made? Especially since the conversation is usually “There’s money left over!”

Would love to have more information to share with those asking me.

ThePSF,
@ThePSF@fosstodon.org avatar

@kjaymiller Thank you for highlighting this need for transparency! Based on this we are putting together a blog post covering the thoughtful work our staff put in and how this year's process went. We will share a link soon 💛

@kjaymiller @pycon Sorry for the delay- this got lost in the shuffle with a couple of staff members being out sick and all the PyCon US organizing! The Travel Grant Team doesn’t include the value of the ticket in the grant amount line for a few reasons:

(1/2)

ThePSF,
@ThePSF@fosstodon.org avatar

@kjaymiller @pycon

  • We don’t always know which ticket someone might have purchased because buying a ticket isn’t required to apply for a grant
  • Travel grant offers represent amounts that will be reimbursed later; we don’t ask applicants to pay for registration to apply for a travel grant
  • The ticket could be online or in-person, which are different amounts
  • The ticket could be for student or individual in-person, which are also different amounts

@kellogh we kicked the survey off in 2023, but we're still looking to get more participation before we close it out!

Registration for PyCon US 2024 is now open. I registered and will be there from Thursday to Sunday.

My trip this year will be shorter than normal because the ridiculous mask policy put in place by @ThePSF. #python

Still looking forward to seeing you all there. :)

ThePSF,
@ThePSF@fosstodon.org avatar

@mkennedy @LauraLangdon @gpshead @webology

That said, we'll continue assessing the situation (air flow, testing feasibility, etc) and also tracking feedback, and we'll see if testing, or masking just in talks rooms, or other changes make sense for next year.

Thanks for registering & sharing the event, and we're looking forward to seeing you there.

@mkennedy @LauraLangdon @gpshead @webology Thank you Michael! That suggestion is noted and appreciated (and definitely will be in the menu of options we consider for next year's policy.)
