Rep. Dean Phillips (D-Minn.) pressed New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) to pardon former President Trump following his recent conviction in his hush money trial....
There is a decent chance this actually happens. If the sentence is actually prison time, that chance goes up to near 100%. Politicians have had this weird sort of pact that they don’t typically go after each other legally when they should (because the implication is it’ll happen to them too), and when they get in trouble they pardon each other. As the late, great George Carlin said: It’s one big club. And you’re not in it.
That was good, but my favorite part was that IDENTITY THEFT is when you give a cop your name on a document and they then look up your name that you gave them. $5,000,000 fine, copper! GOTCHA!
So you’re arguing that selling out any supposed values you might have is fine as long as the check is big enough.
Foo Fighters are a huge band. They aren’t at the whims of some all powerful manager. And Amazon’s crimes are not new, they’re not obscure information. They’re incredibly well known, frequently discussed, and go hand in hand with the mention of Amazon. They knew what they were doing, who they were doing it for.
Now, if you want to discuss the power that record labels and their business relationships hold and their contracts with the bands they produce, that’s a possible explanation for this. But we’re talking about aging millionaire white guys. Chances are, they had veto power, knew what they were doing and probably could’ve accepted a monetary fine from the record company for defying a contract obligation if that’s why they were being forced to do it. And, honestly, probably would’ve leaked that information, gotten a ton of great press, maybe gotten into a public dispute with the record label if they chose to speak out about it, and then cashed in on that.
But, like you said, they did it for a fat paycheck. They didn’t stick up for the well-documented abused workers of Amazon while cashing in on it — “virtue signaling,” as people say. They decided to do this. For money. From Amazon executives.
And that’s…not better.
The fact that this comes at the end of typical corporate purse string tightening at the expense of workers is really just the steaming shit nugget on top of this diarrhea sundae.
Don’t feed your dog vegetarian. If you have a problem with the way an animal eats and you refuse to provide them what they need, don’t adopt them. Dogs are opportunistic carnivores. Cats are obligate carnivores. Both are carnivores. Don’t feed your carnivore animals vegetarian for your own stupid reason.
Nine days after The New York Times reported about the political symbolism of an upside-down American flag that flew at U.S. Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito’s home, the Washington Post acknowledged it had the same story more than three years ago and decided not to publish it....
I think you’re missing what people are saying. They’re saying it’s not about exerting outward influence, but about the editorial bent of the newspaper. What to chase, what not to publish, who to piss off, who not to piss off, what to spend resources on or not. No one can show you an example of this kind of influence in a lemmy comment section. You’d need a research grant and a year’s worth of a team’s dedicated investigation into word choice with inside sources telling them stories that were chased that never got published for some flimsy reason, etc. These things aren’t so neat and concise as to fit into a meme.
In Sierra Leone, a cheap, synthetic drug is ravaging youth. Trash-strewn alleys are lined with boys and young men slumped in addiction. Healthcare services are severely limited. One frustrated community has set up what it calls a treatment center, run by volunteers. But harsh measures can be used....
I mean, yeah I’m all for it. But most of us don’t have the money to buy European/Us made e-bikes. I got mine a few months ago, thankfully. It’s a US company, but they use Chinese parts. It’s a great bike, and I got it on sale for $700. A bunch of the nice ones were like $2500+. So many of us don’t have the option of getting those.
Eh. Dog kibble is engineered to benefit the human. They should be eating a variety of fresh foods. Majority meat, organ, and a calcium source with some fresh vegetables thrown in for vitamins. Kibble is human laziness, capitalist “innovation,” and sacrificing our supposed beloved pets for our own convenience and to save money.
