👋Hi, I'm Aaron, nice to meet you!
📽️ I (sometimes) make videos on the internet that vaguely resemble good content.
📸 I also sometimes do little photography experiments.
🐧Of course I run Linux, it's in the name :)
🦣 I wanted to try out Mastodon about 2 years ago, and I ended up here. Never used Birdsite!

I put in some work on a better site for the Agon light a while ago and I don't remember sharing it with you...

ok so i'm using the xfce beta of solus now and it seems to be doing well so far

i've ruled out the possibility of in browser media viewing instead using freetube for youtube videos and streamlink twitch gui for twtcih streams via mpv

i can conclude that while linux can do well with the atom that's in the minis forum z83-f it's not going to magically revive such a weak device

i still paid less than a rpi3 cost altogether though

@codydragonrude
I just remembered Crunchbangplusplus and BunsenLabs which both use straight Openbox as their DE, making it even lighter weight.
Still not gonna do that much, but every little bit matters :)

Why aren't there any reviews of that Star Labs StarLite tablet with real pictures/video of the tablet?

after much hopping around where i've landed so far is void linux built from base using lxqt

if anyone knows of anything lighter than lxqt but is not a bunch of hotkeys let me know

i'm trying to find the best option for a weak intel atom cpu and 4gb of DDR3L ram

It uses LXQT, so pretty similar, but Debian and it's just an all-in-one package.

Ah, didn't realize 😅
Normal Rpi OS is 64 bit now, so it's weird they haven't updated the desktop edition...

We need to make homebrew computers the norm again.

Some of my personal favorites right now:
Agon Light Origins Edition (of course)
Amethyst (because it's so well put together)
...I guess you're right, we do need more :blobcat3csmirk:

Conspiracy theory:
Google purposefully destroyed its search quality so when they shoved AI into it, they could claim it made their search "better"

My experimentation with #ChatGPT #Gemini + programming has been a mixed bag:
Pros:

  • It often gets it right the first try
  • It's faster to change the prompt than edit the code
  • it can explain code fairly well

Cons

  • I can ask the exact same prompt and get different code that WONT work!
  • After several iterations, the code just stops compiling
  • I frequently save revisions of files so I can upload a working file and iterate from there.
  • It's SO SLOW to wait for it to type out

Once you've learned the basics, it's actually pretty easy to make working web UIs using the standard HTML/CSS/JS stack.
The most time consuming part is getting it to look good, but that's why basically everyone uses tools like https://penpot.app/ to prototype designs first.
The other thing is doing it enough to have an intuitive sense of how things should function, but it just takes practice.
Doing it yourself will produce better results faster once you get the hang of it :)

I recently watched a performance of Shakespeare's Othello (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XAuqkY6kQhU) and wondered if anybody had done an in-depth OPSEC postmortem on the play. :blobcatthink:
It feels like the kind of thing that someone on the internet definitely should've made, but I couldn't find anything. :blobcatgooglyshrug:
