Today I filled another five bags for the local charity shops alongside a mass of things for the tip, in the process of emptying yet another wardrobe in the house the tardis built. Plus I managed to spend an hour sitting in the garden working on my crochet so I’m a happy human!

The Small Things Spreading Joy: May 2024

Summer is icumen in! The roses have started blooming, the rhododendrons have been busting out all over, as have the laburnum and plenty of other flowers, and there are insects all over the place. Plus the baby birds have started to fledge, appearing in trees and woods and - in the case of the aquatic birds - ponds. Everything is lush and green and full of life despite the fact this May has had more than its fair share of grey…

2024 in books: May

I don’t have any of my normal reviews for you all this month because I have not finished reading any of the new-to-me books I’ve started. Instead, in the wake of C J Sansom’s death at the end of April, I have been re-reading his wonderful historical crime novels - The Shardlake Series - as a personal memorial to a man I never met but who enriched my reading life significantly.

My favourite mug just exploded when I poured hot coffee into it. Thankfully it was on the countertop and I did not get burned but I am sad because it was both beautiful and massive, thus so useful for prolonged writing sessions 😢

Sitting in the garden in the sun with a glass of Rosé & the third Shardlake book, feeling very grateful for such a quiet & lovely (if slightly unkempt) space. I’m taking the next few days as a small restorative break from social media so don’t panic if I don’t post my daily pics.
