There are really impressive steam locomotives in Slovenia's Železniški muzej - Railway Museum. However, I was even more impressed - and amused - by their collection of hand cars and rail push trolleys.

I mean, look at them! It's like a competition how tiny can they get.

I really can't imagine women resisting anyone driving or riding one of those things. Except for the bicycle one. That one is for geeks and losers.

A fairly spartan handcar, equipped with a wooden bench and rudimentary controls. It also has no roof, but at least it has a windshield, although I can't possibly imagine this thing driving fast, except downhill.
This is my favorite handcar from the museum. It's an old 1950s Tomos Colibri light motorcycle adapted to run on four railway wheels. With its bright yellow color and rounded design, it looks like a children's toy.
WE NEED TO GO EVEN SMALLER. This trolley car has no benches, or lights, or roof or even a motor. It's like a bicycle, but on four railway wheels. So, like a quadricycle?

So, a guy behind the first two "Gamers" movies is trying to crowdfund fourth one as well. To which I say: sure, why not?

I'm usually very skeptical about belated sequels/cash-grabs, but I have fond memories of first two "Gamers" films. They came out long before Twitch streams and YouTube actual plays made (relatively) popular again.

So, why not? Let them make another one!

But sometimes that's enough. A good movie poster tells a story of its own. A good Game Master - or any kind of creative person, really - can steal that imagined story for themselves. 🙂

Some things I saw at this week's scifi convention in Zagreb:

  • people selling pretty faux-retro editions of old Victorian science fiction and adventure novels, which is neat! Except that, for some unfathomable reason, books use Comic Sans font for the text.

  • there are also folks selling hand-crafted D&D dice for between 70 and 140 euros per set. There might be ttrpg geeks out there with enough disposable income to spend so much money on a single dice set, but I sure as hell ain't one of them.

    @LeviKornelsen When I first heard about it 15 years ago, I found the idea abhorrent: DMing should be a social activity for friends, not a source of income.

    As I grow older, I appreciate that people don't have time to prepare and run a game, and if someone is willing to do it for them for money, why not?

    So far however, I wasn't all that impressed by people offering to run things. I may have too high expectations, but the professional DM should be able to do more than a half-assed improv job.

    Anyways, this week, my recommendation is Dark Corners Reviews - @darkcorners3. This was the first YouTube channel I discovered here. Their reviews of old, cult, and merely forgotten genre movies are always fun to watch. Even better, they don’t just make fun of bad genre movies (even though there’s so many of them), but also recommend those that are worth watching. Check them out!

    You know, I should try to write more on instead of merely lurking and reposting stuff. I enjoy writing, but I lack the will and time to commit to something substantial, which is why toots might be a good fit. I have plenty of things I could write about like , , and .

    But the 500 character limit really bugs me. It’s either squeezing a thought into a single toot, or expanding it into a thread which is a clumsy way to communicate. Otherwise, I risk running out of cha

    It's a thing here in Poland.

    I don't think it's a thing back home in Germany, but I come from a very equal Catholic/Lutheran area and maybe it's different in other areas.

    Anyway, we pretended to be a good Christian family again on the off-chance that the kids want to have first communion.

    Lost Harley the cat this morning.

    We've had him spread out on a towel downstairs the past couple of hours, took turns telling stories about him, the usual wake stuff, you know.

    Kid's been watching over him while I do the work outside. Mad respect to sextons, it's hard bloody work.

    Had to come in and do the grim job of measuring him, now having a quick cup of tea before I go back out and widen his grave a bit. Well, a lot really.

    This is pure cultural bias but it is really throwing me that the fair maiden of Das Nibelungenlied is named Kriemhild. That's too many consonants for a fair maid. The moment Siegfried meets a French fair maid named Oisietteaubeaulieu he's gonna lose his mind.
