The "is a burger a sandwich?" debate rolls on and on without conclusion, but now a judge in the U.S. has entered the chat with a controversial new ruling. Superior Court Judge Craig Bobay of Allen County, Indiana, determined that "tacos and burritos are Mexican-style sandwiches" when presiding over a case brought to the courts by a restaurant owner hoping to open a location in the city of Fort Wayne. Here's more on the legal battle, but what do you think?

The "Home Alone" house in Winnetka, Illinois, is for sale for a cool $5.25 million (house prices where we live are so ridiculous that we saw that and thought, "hmm, not bad"). Here's a @Flipboard Storyboard about filming locations around the world, from "Star Wars" to "Father Ted." Tell us in the comments what you think is the most iconic film or TV setting of all time.

"Reading Rainbow," which ran on PBS from 1983 until 2006, is remembered with love in a new documentary, "Butterfly in the Sky." Kevin Makin reviews it for @csmonitor. "Ultimately, the documentary is more of a triumph than a requiem. Aside from its praise of programming that advocates for literacy and of [LeVar] Burton himself, there’s a sense of humanity that perseveres and goes beyond the warmness of nostalgia. Maybe it’s watching the smiling kids who became loving adults. Or it could be watching the series’ founders speak about familial ties that went beyond educational rhetoric," he writes.

What's better for the environment: A paper book, or an e-reader? NPR spoke to industry experts about the rise of digital reading, how the publishing industry is reducing waste, and whether using a fossil-fuel-derived plastic e-reader is a better option than a paper book. The short answer, according to professor Mike Berners-Lee (yes, he is Tim's brother): It depends.

Cocktail bars in Mexico City, Tijuana, Guadalajara and beyond are proving why Mexico is slinging some of the best drinks in the business. "It's essential to celebrate native Mexican ingredients, and incorporate them into modern mixology," says Fabiola Padilla, owner and beverage director at Bekeb, a rooftop bar in San Miguel de Allende. Mexico is no longer just tequila and mezcal. Read about its rise in the cocktail scene, from Food and Wine: https://flip.it/.on.-n

Apple Music has released its inaugural list of the 100 best albums of all time. Lauryn Hill's "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill"came in at No. 1, sparking some debate by music fans who thought Michael Jackson's "Thriller" was a more worthy winner. Here's a story from the Independent about the list. We want to know, which of these DIDN'T make the top 10?

https://flip.it/AZP2nb

CultureDesk,
@CultureDesk@flipboard.social avatar

@allenmichie Some of the backlash against Apple has also focused on the fact that the company effectively destroyed the concept of the album when it introduced the iPod, and yet... “The list is an editorial statement,” says the press release, “fully independent of any streaming numbers on Apple Music — a love letter to the records that have shaped the world music lovers live and listen in.”

CultureDesk,
@CultureDesk@flipboard.social avatar

39% of the people who participated in this vote thought that "Abbey Road" by The Beatles didn't make Apple Music's top 10, but the correct answer was Joni Mitchell's "Blue," which Apple placed at No. 16.

The list proved controversial, partly because some folk were confused at how it was put together (it was chosen by Apple Music’s experts plus musicians like Pharrell Williams and Charli XCX, plus songwriters, producers and other industry pros), and partly because Apple is largely believed to have killed the concept of the album by introducing the iPod.

This post by @Paperposts tickled us — he pointed out that the UX for discovering the list was woeful — "a horrible, empty husk of an acquisition mechanic."

The "Man or Bear?" debate has dominated internet discourse for the past week or two (TL;DR In a viral TikTok video, a man asks eight women if they’d rather be stuck in a forest with a man or a bear. Seven say they'd prefer the bear). Here's a unique perspective from Laura Killingbeck, a contributor to Bikepacking magazine, who actually did leave mankind behind to live in nature with bears. "'Would you rather be stuck in a forest with a man or a bear?' is just another way of asking, 'Are you afraid of men?' she writes. "It’s the same question I’ve been fielding for the entirety of my life as a solo female traveler. It’s the same question that hovers over women all the time as we move through the world."

The Hollywood Reporter's Roundtable events bring together leading figures in entertainment for frank conversations. This time, it's the turn of comedy actresses and the lineup is stellar: Quinta Brunson, Kristen Wiig, Michelle Buteau, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Ego Nwodim and Maya Rudolph. They met at The Georgian Hotel in Santa Monica to talk about the strangest feedback they've received, the roles that transformed their careers, and what happens when someone — in this case, Netflix — finally believes in you. "Oh, I’ve been tap-dancing for the patriarchy for a good while," says Buteau. "My knees are tired, but fish oil helps."

Oasis have dropped a hint that they may be getting back together after their split 15 years ago. The iconic Britpop band, fronted by battling brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher, posted a cryptic video on X, with no explanation. Some fans believe it means new live gigs or music. Others are convinced it's aerial footage of Sawmill Studio in Cornwall, where Oasis recorded their debut, "Definitely Maybe," and that the video teases a 30th anniversary reissue. Here's the NME with more details.

As we await clarification, here's a fun question: It's now 25 years since Blur's "Country House" and Oasis's "Roll With It" went head to head for the U.K. No. 1 spot. Most folk agree that the tunes themselves weren't the best examples of the bands' work, but a quarter-of-a-century on, which do you think is the iconic Britpop act?

https://flip.it/L_iC1A

CultureDesk,
@CultureDesk@flipboard.social avatar

Still no word on whether or not Oasis is coming back, but most voters in this poll couldn't care less. 42% voted for Blur as the iconic Britpop act, while 23% voted for "another band" (not the name of a Britpop group, though it sounds like it could be). Sleeper and Luke Haines/The Auteurs came up in the comments, but by far the most popular choice was Pulp, the Sheffield band fronted by Jarvis Cocker. We completely agree, and to celebrate, here's a blast of our personal favorite, "Mis-Shapes" from the band's 1995 "Different Class" album.
