Today marks the beginning of Ramadan for Muslims. Our Muslim friends have had a rough go in America because of Xenophobia. So please give them some love.
I spent time learning more about their journey by meeting with some folks at a Mosque in our neighborhood. I brought them oranges and told them they had a friend.

If these committee members were actually serious, they would author a bill that protects consumers from exploitation no matter who owns the platforms.

It's ironic that this article is by Katy Balls - political editor of the Spectator and one of the rags that however good the writing, is delighted to encourage the herd rightwards.
This comes across as xenophobic and anti-Chinese baiting from the #Biden administration. The truth of the matter is that modern cars are privacy nightmares, no matter the manufacturer. While it may be true that “vehicles on American roads…could be immediately disabled by somebody in Beijing”, they could also be disabled by someone in Detroit, Austin, or Seoul.
The root of the problem is the fact that cars are allowed to be sold to the consumer with these egregious invasions of privacy. Want to fix the China problem? Fix consumer rights laws so that no one can remote-control your cars.

Today in Labor History February 9, 1886: President Cleveland declared martial law in Seattle because of anti-Chinese violence instigated by the Knights of Labor. The union, which was one of the first to organize workers of different ethnicities, as well as women, was notorious for their anti-Chinese sentiment. They participated in numerous other anti-Chinese riots and supported the xenophobic Chinese Exclusion Act.
Today in Labor History February 5, 1917: U.S. Congress passed the Immigration Act of 1917 over President Wilson’s veto. Also known as the Asiatic Barred Zone Act, it was one of many anti-Asian laws passed by Congress between the 1860s and World War II. However, there were plenty of other xenophobic, nativist and anti-left immigration laws, too. The Immigration Act of 1903 specifically barred Anarchists and epileptics. The Immigration Act of 1882 specifically barred “lunatics, idiots and prostitutes.” The Immigration Act of 1918 and the Sedition Act of 1918 came at the beginning of the First Red Scare. Thousands of Anarchists, Communists, Socialists and labor leaders were executed, imprisoned as a result of these laws.
