Renewed fighting in Gaza stretched into a second day on Saturday after talks to extend a week-old truce with Hamas collapsed and mediators said Israeli bombardments were complicating attempts to again pause hostilities.
The Israeli army has issued a statement saying that it has resumed fighting against Hamas in the Gaza Strip. It says that Hamas violated the truce by firing into Israel territory.
There’s been no official word from the Israeli government, but anonymous government and security officials have spoken to Israeli media and said the new list of captives meant to be released on Thursday has not been agreed upon.
And those anonymous sources are saying that fighting will resume in the morning if the names on the list are not changed.

Israeli army claims truce violated in northern Gaza
In a post on X, the army said that three explosive devices were detonated adjacent to its troops in two different locations in northern Gaza, “violating the framework of the operational pause”.
“In one of the locations, terrorists also opened fire at the troops, who responded with fire. A number of soldiers were lightly injured during the incidents,” it said. https://twitter.com/IDF/status/1729494020433256949
Emad Zaqout, an independent journalist in Gaza, has told Al Jazeera that Israeli drones have been seen flying over Beit Hanoon and other areas in northern Gaza.
He added that there was Israeli artillery shelling in the western and northern areas of Gaza this morning.
The State of Qatar announces, as part of the ongoing mediation, an agreement has been reached to extend the humanitarian truce for an additional two days in the Gaza Strip.

Germany says it supports the extension of the truce, adding it should be used as “a bridge to a political process” for a lasting solution.
“The central thing we are currently struggling to do is see each other’s suffering. Because only if the suffering of others can be healed will your own suffering also end. Israelis can only live in security if Palestinians live in security.”

The EU’s top foreign policy official Josep Borrell has urged for an extension of the truce that is due to end on Tuesday.
“The pause should be extended to make it sustainable and long-lasting while working for a political solution.”
“Nothing can justify the indiscriminate brutality Hamas unleashed against civilians on October 7,” he said. “But one horror cannot justify another horror.”
While the world's eyes are focused on the #hostage deal and temporary #truce in #Gaza, Israel is taking the opportunity to murder Palestinians in the West Bank.
Settlers have also stepped up land theft and attacks, backed by Israeli forces, on Palestinians there.

Al Jazeera has verified footage published by photographer Atia Darwish showing Israeli military vehicles moving towards eastern Gaza, cutting off Salah al-Din Road.
The movement took place about three hours since the truce came into effect.
Zak Hania, a displaced Palestinian who fled the Shati refugee camp, says Palestinians in Gaza are having mixed feelings about the pause in the fighting.
“We don’t know where to be happy or sad. Our houses are broken, our hearts are broken, everything is broken in Gaza now. We do not now how life will continue after this,” he told Al Jazeera from the southern city of Khan Younis, some three hours into the truce.
