heedless of the path
I flow forward recklessly

It will become memory

We don’t talk about
our feelings; you assume that
I don’t have any

I admit they’re hard to find,
scattered shards inside my heart

in me, deep as you can go,
lodged inside my heart

Buried where the love I have
throbs for you and engulfs you

  • Teoretycznie możliwe. Jak pan.

You're my oasis
away from the love-parched world.
I will drink you down
until my thirst is slakened,
and my heart is drenched in you

I have no idea if 'slakened' is an actual word, but I'm going with it (I guess I could replace 'is slakened' with 'has been quenched' but it doesn't sound as cool)

Issue 6 of the Enchanted Garden Haiku Journal has just been published. The theme is 'urban blossoms'. Again, Steliana Voicu has curated a beautiful collection of haiku and translated them into Romanian. I feel honoured that one of my haiku has been selected. 👇🏽

A using the weeks from last weeks

Spring sky, a vibrant blue,
Thin ice whispers of winter's end.
Butterfly wings unfurl,
Plum blossoms grace the pilgrimage path,
Skylark sings, barley fields await.

2/10 Can poetry be translated?

Yes! But a translated poem is not always poetic. More than in any other domain, the translator of poetry must take liberties with their source material, which means that the translator themself is injected into the translation more than in any other medium. The hard part is staying true to the author's intent while keeping the language of the material beautiful.

I love translating poetry. I think it's one of the best ways to develop poetic skill.

Consider this translation of the Hyakunin Isshu #9

Translation:

The fullness of the flower
has already come and gone
fruitlessly
time has passed me by
like falling rain

A more literal translation:

The color of the flower
has faded
in vain
I passed through time
rain was falling

Anyway, my point is that literal translation often misses the point. My translation isn't perfect, but it's better than a robot's.

This blog post had a great analysis of the poem https://onethousandsummers.blogspot.com/2012/07/ogura-hyakunin-isshu-poem-9-ono-no.html

Whilst I wait for timezones to catchup and @dailyhaikuprompt to update, heres a using this week's words:

Lonely call of pheasant,
Kite dips low, snow paints the ground.
Ducks huddle by the shore.
Narcissus dreams of spring's warm sun,
While oysters hold the ocean's roar.
