Played #Scythe for the first time after buying it 2016 😳.
IMO, the design of weightier games has streamlined since, and for the better. It's 'tech trees: the game', but enjoyable, and it remains an innovator and masterclass in interactive information visualisation.
Will ich wieder spielen.
So, of course, I cut my hand on my scythe for the first time while taking photos of it to sell it (we’ve just bought a little shoebox in Bray and – fingers crossed – we’re moving next week… So! Much! To! Do!)
Anyway, so if anyone wants a scythe (a very lovely Austrian scythe, I might add, which I’m loathe to part with but we barely have a garden in the new place and I don’t want to scare the neighbours.)
Linds and I set up #Scythe#Expeditions the other night but her brain wasn't working and she totally forgot to play (it has been months and she has only played twice before.)
We kept it set up on the table and reset it tonight to try again. She, of course, won 65 to 56. I forgot Solving quests impacts the points per star and I completed 0 quests instead focusing on equipment and Corruption Tokens.
Joined a new #boardgames group and played #scythe. Two games of Scythe on BGA left me lukewarm on the game, but this was my first time playing it physically and it was much more enjoyable. Really good game.
I like how it's not just military all the way. You certainly have military objectives, but you're only rewarded with victory points for winning twice. After that, you don't have much reason to be aggressive.
Played a rousing game of #MyLittleScythe tonight with the 10 and 7 year Olds. 10 yo won and was so excited he asked for a pic with his "wolfies." Of course, his little sister had to get one holding her "bear'ys" too.
Happy Sunday Funday! For any of you out there curious about the brand new game, #Expeditions, check out our new videos we just posted!
If you're new to my videos, I typically put out 2. The BURST is a 3 to 4 minute look at everything you need to know about the game. The standard version will be a deeper dive, typically from 30 to 60 minutes. Enjoy!
Taught Lindsey how to play #Scythe#Expeditions and she was a fan. We both tied with 61 points but she won the tie breaker. She said she preferred this over the original Scythe since there was no combat.
I stepped up to level 2 automa in #Scythe#Expeditions but lost by 9 points. I feel you really need to commit to a card type (quests, items, or meteorites) to grab the glory for having 4. If you try to collect a few, you seem to really get caught not collecting enough glory to compete.
Ended up winning by a pretty big margin but it has to be because I played with the easiest automa level. I felt like I was flailing around a bit at the beginning, trying to grasp how all the pieces fit together.
Since Anna could use a worker to "solve" a quest, I went heavy on quests and completed all 4. This definitely helped scoring at end as the quests are the score multiplier, much like Popularity in #Scythe
I painted up the figures for Scythe (the boardgame) a while ago.
I kept to the official colour schemes for the characters, and the army colours for the mechs.
I also added basing to the figures but left the edges as plain plastic.
All this helps the figures remain recognisable for gaming.
