#TodayInOaklandHistory May 9, 1882, Henry J. Kaiser was born. Locally people associate the name with Kaiser Permanente, but Kaiser got his start in construction and made one of his most notable impacts with shipbuilding during WWII. Kaiser was also in aluminum, steel, cement, and even cars.
The namesake Kaiser Center was once the tallest building in #Oakland. It included a penthouse apartment where Kaiser lived for a time. The adjacent parking garage includes a lovely roof garden. The garden is accessible to the public during regular business hours.
