@jeffjarvis. I canceled my #Post subscription after one too many bothsides articles. However, if you have a moment and a spare gift article, would you please post it? #Brain health, specifically #dementia, is a profoundly important issue to me (my father died of #early-onset #Alzheimer's). I post #ChaunceyDeVega's #Salon pieces, esp. those with #Dr.JohnGartner whenever he covers this issue and how #doctors and #neurologists are speaking out, sometimes. Thank you.
Are there any #medical#scientists or #researchers or #neurologists doing any current studies on human #brain & #memory retention - specifically on maximum capacities of human brain memory storage & if there's a limit to how much we can store in our brains?
Like, if we build up many new memories, do we reach a point where some past memories are removed from our memory storage or is there no maximum limits to human memory storage?
These are things I wonder about & don't know enough about.
In #100YearsOfSolitude, #GabrielGarciaMarquez wrote about "the quicksand of forgetfulness." I am grateful to his sons for making the hard to decision -- an "act of betrayal," as they put -- to publish his last work while he, too, had fallen into that quicksand. It is a gift to the world of readers, to #literary critics, and to #neurologists.
Listen to him try and pronounce "evangelical." I think his difficulties with language are very familiar to many of us who have known people with #aphasia. I would love to hear what #neurologists think!
“If you think a dementia screening test is very difficult, you may have early dementia,” Reiner, who is director of cardiac catheterization laboratories at GWU." He's right. I'm glad #JonathanReiner is speaking up and wish more #doctors would, esp. #neurologists who, though they might wish to avoid a diagnosis, can explain re: Trump's language difficulties. Like the historians of #fascism sounding the alarm re: #Trump, I think doctors have a similar role/obligation.
Yesterday, I went to Kensington Senior Living in Redondo Beach for a panel discussion about #dementia, moderated by the amazing #laurenmillerrogen, founder of #HFC. #Neurologists talked about the latest drug therapies for #Alzheimer's, #caregiving, et al. It was also my birthday (people, especially those who have lost a loved one to dementia, will understand why it was important to go on this day) and the wonderful community at the Kensington sent me home with this gorgeous bouquet.💜
#FindingTheRightWords turns 2 today. Here I am w/my co-author #Dr.BruceMiller, a #doctor whose #empathy, #knowledge, and #generosity knows no bounds. That my father died of #early-onset #Alzheimer's couldn't be changed, but writing the #memoir w/ Bruce changed me, helping to put that experience of profound fragmentation (my father's; mine) into something a little more whole. W/so much gratitude to Bruce and the many #neurologists working to #EndAlz always and esp. during #worldalzheimersmonth
