"Et 1 de plus" ... quel fucking intérêt de faire ça alors qu'il y a largement la place de l'écrire à l'écran ?
Enfin bon...

I am on here to engage with people, not AI, not bots. I find people who set up accounts with no posts and no followers who follow me creepy. I will block you, especially if you have not commented, liked or boosted any of my posts.

That's all. Thank you,

Merci infiniment !

Ok, tell me what you think about this idea! needs some more news outlets and big names here to get people to be happy here. Should we plan to go to the former birdbsite and encourage these people and organizations to come here? Get trending?

Excellent diagnosis and recommendations by @kissane.

I'm a committed user. But I sympathize with the complaints she has gathered and understand why they drove many users away.

All of us who are here and committed to stay should take them seriously, especially if we want more people from our networks to give Mastodon a try (not deterred by its reputation), like what they find (not deterred by their experience), and decide to join us.

To some extent, an easy way to win over non-technical people already exists -- without registering for

I really anger my friends who staunchly resist . I send them the URI to a hashtag. For example,

https://mastodon.social/deck/tags/bluesky

All they want is access to the information. They do not want to register. They feel checkmated. They find it impossible to argue. They use registering as an excuse to avoid .

Here is my NON-Scientific results of vs reach.

My Mastodon account has 630+ Followers, my Threads one has 520+.

Asked both sets to Boost/Repost/Like/Favourite and comment.

Almost ZERO engagement/reach on Threads and massive reach on Mastodon.

I suspected Mastodon would easily win but not by this much.

For my more techie friends/mutuals… is this a real problem? Do we need to worry? “The problem with federated web apps” - https://www.devever.net/~hl/webappcoupling

To any #Mastondon admins:
Is there any move towards allowing access to #Mastodon instances using #OpenIdConnect rather than individual log in on each instance?
@wild1145?

Presumably this might also have relevance if/when changing mastodon instances?

*** Mastodon and Kafka ***

So now I'm being told that a few people on a instance with 1000s of users who complain that you don't use CW or alt-text the way they want can result in your being blocked for the entire instance, even when you've never received any notification of this.

Sort of like how you'd get arrested in fascist countries and never told why. Kafka would recognize this for sure.

I would assert that this makes even more of a toy than I thought it was, and utterly unreliable for much beyond trading photos of kitties. Leela the Siamese Snowshoe approves of kitty photos of course, but beyond that anyone depending on might charitably be called "misguided" at best, if my understanding of the situation is correct.

And I feel that the public needs to understand that they're buying into this sort of nonsense if they're looking at as an alternative to Elon's hellscape.

Now I'll probably get blocked for this post. -L

jab01701mid,

@lauren So FWIW, at least there are several servers for people to choose from. Some people have spun up their own.
Also, this reminds me of the issue of college course lecture videos being unavailable because no captions, so if not good for all, must be banned for everyone.
This is a familiar pattern, and it has to do with people, not technology or platforms.
But those who run the platforms, and participate in them, can help make it better.
Or not.

Admins: I have now asked 6 admins what their Mastodon instances cost to run. They vary widely, but the average instance cost seems to run roughly $500 per 10,000 registered users, per month (not MAUs). Is this consistent with your admin experience? If not, is yours significantly more or less $?
