Kids were playing Plants vs Zombies GW2. #EA rolled out some anti-cheat shit that works only on Windows I presume. It no longer works on #Linux, I cannot explain it to my kids why their game no longer works, although we paid for it. #GamingOnLinux#FuckEA#steam
I’m playing Star Wars Jedi Survivor on PS5 and it’s such a frustrating experience:
• Great story, acting, animation, environment design
• Extremely STAR WARS
• Good gameplay—though at times frustrating
• Constant, frustrating graphical issues
EVERY time I play I see bright flashing white polygons, textures failing to load, environmental details popping in a meter away, and wildly inconsistent framerates. It’s the worst gaming experience I’ve had since… well, Jedi Fallen Order.
It breaks my suspension of disbelief every time; I’m constantly reminded that this is a poorly-optimized, over-rushed game put out by a publisher who couldn’t be bothered with quality control.
Why it’s especially frustrating to me is that I had this SAME experience with Fallen Order on PS4, and according to Reddit, anyone complaining is told they are crazy—it’s the most hardcore fan gaslighting I’ve ever seen.
Maybe I am just used to well-made PlayStation games like Horizon, Uncharted, The Last of Us, Spider-Man, Ratchet & Clank… basically all of my favorites?? They play beautifully without any of the issues I see here.
I’m happy I got it as a gift (and I know it was purchased during a good sale!), but sheesh. You’d think a YEAR after release it would not be this rough. And Reddit tells me “oh yeah they fixed that all with the update” which came out before I even started playing the game—I can assure you, if this is “fixed,” the game was COMPLETELY broken before.
The worst part: not a single “review” mentions any of the issues I and others see.
Oh, and yes, I have tried the two graphical modes, turning off a bunch of graphical features, disabling HDR, running it from the on-board storage vs. the expansion PCIe Gen 4 expansion SSD… but also, I play console games because I shouldn’t have to fiddle with all that shit.
And it doesn’t fix it, anyway. And again, other extremely beautiful, taxing games play perfectly fine out of the box—as they should.
This mirrors my experience with Jedi: Fallen Order, too, where I was appealed by how dogshit the game played on PS4. I assumed at the time the game was designed for PS4 Pro and just didn’t work as well on my PS4, but it looks like that’s just how this series is made. The quality standards aren’t just low, they’re subterranean.
Shame on the tech press for not calling this out, either.

There’s something so strange about people like taking themselves and their time so seriously that they think about things like replaceability and is it better to have someone else doing this thing because my time is better spent doing that or like should I pursue this particular job if there’s someone else there who could do it just as well are better than I could have been, so I should do something else, just as like really intense emphasis on how you use your time on the that level is kind of weird and unhealthy.
C: Yeah, it sounds like it’s very economic talk, like very much competitive advantage, as in you want to optimize your competitive advantage versus optimizing your quality of life or your happiness or how much love you have.
E: Exactly. And yeah, I think there’s this intense emphasis on rationality and logic, which I think appealed to me at first, because I’m a very logical person, and I was a philosophy student. I mean, in some ways, a lot of the EA thinking is great. Like, for example, when you’re thinking about where to donate, I think it’s great that you put the emphasis on logic and on research, right? Like, let’s actually give money to the organizations that are cost-effective and where the money is gonna make the most difference instead of just the ones that have the biggest brand-new budget, so you’ve heard of them. And in that way, I think that the emphasis of logic is great, but then I think in a lot of ways they take it way too far to the point where you’re losing things like emotion and empathy and passion."

Easy Anti-Cheat (en declive desde que fue comprado por #EpicGames) ha sido demostrado como vulnerable a ejecución de código remoto durante el último torneo de #ApexLegends, que ha quedado suspendido. Esto implica que se puede instalar #malware sin vuestro consentimiento al estar jugando en una partida "protegida" por Easy Anti-Cheat.
La mayoría de medios de prensa especializados en videojuegos cuenta con #EpicGames como patrocinador y por tanto se suele echar la culpa con facilidad a #EA y #Respawn en vez de a #EasyAntiCheat, que es lo que se usa en estos juegos para evitar problemas así.
El servicio de #EAC debería ser de inicio manual, por lo que desinstalarlo no tendría por qué ser necesario, pero por si acaso podéis acudir a esta lista de los juegos vulnerables.
