This one for the #cricket buffs, courtesy of The Times. “After 943.4 overs in the series so far, there are only 41 runs between the sides: Australia: 1,850 (for 58) England: 1,809 (for 55)”
Discussion before the start of the day at the #Ashes#cricket about Ben Stokes and his captaincy.
In my opinion, he has NOTHING to prove as a cricketer, a captain and a person. However people do judge on results and especially Ashes results which he has not achieved yet which is very unfair considering how good the Australians are.
I remember asking for a glass of water in the bar at the cricket ground at Stormont to dissolve two Co-Codomol tablets before we went out to bowl. I had a shoulder injury. I shouldn’t have been playing, but must needs.
The umpires saw this and decided to wind me up about taking banned substances to assist my play. They said I wouldn’t be able to bowl and that they’d have to report me to the NCU.
Every time I hear someone say, “Cricket was the winner”, I recall the evening when I was playing in a 50-over game, and the opposition scored 360 against our bowling attack*. We folded when we batted and lost by about 200.
One of our senior players said, “Cricket was the winner” in the changing room. Boy, did we laugh? I'm grinning remembering it now.
I did okay. 2 for 40 of 10 overs from my bowling. But it's a team game, and we were trounced!
