In all the boxed-book kerfuffel, don’t overlook Ephemeral City’s remarkable cover design by the excellent Julia Favaloro who used the eight stories as the starting point and recurring numerical motif for this restrained and elegant design. #books #design #bookdesign #coverdesign #coverart #books

We can’t share Eugen Gomringer’s “ping pong” without also sharing the artist book it inspired, a favorite in the Letterform Archive collection. Martha Sophie Burkhardt created this edition of 12 as a Book Art student under professor Sabine Golde at Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle, Germany, in 2018.

Hands page through a book with thick board pages, eventually forming a ping pong table.

I am looking to chat with fellow translators and friends in publishing who have experience working with EPUBs that contain character-based languages. Is the EPUB format able to display Chinese ideographs correctly? Are there certain limitations in terms of encoding? Thanks

Had a chat about pop-up books with an illustrator friend, we looked at a bunch of Soviet-era ones printed in Prague and Moscow.

There’s an interesting story around Soviet pop-up books, pioneered by the extremely productive Vojtěch Kubašta who worked for the government-run Artia publisher. His books were published in English, German and Swedish but have not seen any in Finnish.
