Who in Northern Ireland should I be talking to about getting a new shed built and installed at my house? A company that'll do it right so it doesn’t blow away in a gale. I already have foundations from a previous wooden garage where it can go.
You get a new appreciation of the number of trees there are in your neighbourhood when you climb to the top of the local ancient motte and are above them. See pictures.
On 10 July 1921 Bloody Sunday broke out in Belfast. The violence erupted one day before a truce began in the Irish War of Independence, which ended the war in most of Ireland. With the truce nearing, police launched a raid against republicans, but were ambushed by the IRA and a British officer was killed. 1/2
Weirdly happy to see this ad on the Newtownards Road. It would be nice if thugs would fuck off forever but assuming they won’t, it’s nice they don’t have as much visible sway any more.
The East Belfast I knew as a kid would have had this vandalised or destroyed at the very hint of anti-paramilitary talk.
Not pictured, the giant UVF mural just beside it. Baby steps.
Our wonderful home-town movie theater, the Colonial, a diminutive century-old Art Deco dreamland, re-opened today, after more than a year of being shuttered, now under non-profit ownership. A happy day in #Belfast#Maine
JHC. The Northern Ireland Translink* website and travel smart card buying process is terrible. You'd think finding out if Dundonald was in Zone 1 would be easy. I must be an idiot because I can't find it. The best info I can find is the PDF linked below.
Also - why isn’t there a smartphone app for this? Or at least for the Glider.
Cillian Murphy choosing Lisa O'Neill's Old Note on 6 & I'm crying in my car.
She is just astonishing. 😭❤️
She's playing #Belfast Empire in December and I couldn't get my ticket fast enough.
Last time I saw her I cried the whole way through so tissues at the ready! #LisaONeill#Irish#IrishMusic#FolkMusic#Banjo#Music
Where could I get new zips fitted on the pockets of my Regatta waterproof walking trousers? One pocket zip on each pair has bust. I’ll get them all replaced with better zips.
East Belfast clothing repair shops preferred. Wider Belfast recommendations also welcome.
Yitzhak HaLevi Herzog died on 25 July 1959. Rabbi Herzog served as rabbi of Belfast from 1916 to 1919 and was appointed rabbi of Dublin in 1919. A fluent speaker of the Irish language, he supported the First Dáil and the Irish republican cause during the Irish War of Independence, and became known as "the Sinn Féin Rabbi". He went on to serve as Chief Rabbi of Ireland between 1922 and 1936.
The Moon and Jupiter are close together in the sky and almost directly overhead from Belfast right now. Cold out too so crisp and clear viewing conditions. Wrap up warm!
