Zed Decoded: Rope & SumTree - by Zed Industries

https://zed.dev/blog/zed-decoded-rope-sumtree

Absolutely fascinating deep-dive into the core data structures the folks at Zed Industries use for their !

"Currently there are over 20 uses of the SumTree in Zed. [...] The list of files in a project is a SumTree. The information returned by git blame is stored in a SumTree. Messages in the chat channel: SumTree. Diagnostics: SumTree."

Oh, how I love this! ✨

I built #Zed for #Linux. The build succeeds on the first try, but it barely runs.

Think it’s fair to say my current editor of choice (free one) is Zed. Clearly still in development but overall a really solid editor that covers most of my needs. Hope they eventually expand to Linux and Windows so the community at large can enjoy it.

🚀 It’s Changelog & Friends!

The Zed text editor has come a long way since Nathan Sobo came on the show last year to tell us about this follow-up to Atom ⚛️

Zed is open source now, has the underpinnings of collaboration built in, is beginning its journey toward full extensibility, is coming to Linux soon & shows serious promise if Nathan’s team can mix their secret sauce just right 🧑‍🍳

💚 Enjoy! https://changelog.com/friends/33

The #Zed code editor looks very promising!

rvxlab, to php

Really not a fan of all this AI nonsense going on in IDEs. with an un-uninstallable AI plugin (not to mention increasingly poor performance), looks promising and luckily the AI stuff can be disabled but it’s lacking features because it’s new-ish. VSCode is a nope…

Anyone has recommendations for an alternative? I mainly work with and . Obvious choice for me is or but I’m finding it such a chore to get working, not to mention tooling.

I kept seeing mentions of that #Zed code editor and had to try it out.

Wow. This is a serious potential #Neovim replacer for me. I have recreated most of my key bindings, and it's faster and less resource hungry than my nvim setup, which is both amazing and slightly irritating. 😅

The main thing I'm missing is a way to open a floating terminal window with Lazygit… 🤔

The editor apparently is now open source. Just saw the email with the announcement.

It's a combination of very popular things as of 2024, like -sitter and , but also integration.

Is there any option available to add extra tree-sitter-grammars to #zed?

Trying #Zed and it’s OK.

Making the UI the same font as the edited text is an odd choice, though. https://github.com/zed-industries/community/issues/330

My opinion is that every editor should support LSP out of the box for whatever languages they support. I shouldn't have to install anything. #BBEdit and #Zed are like this and it's great.
