Giving the Waterfox browser a try. I like Firefox but it seems to be starting to get a little bloaty, and I want to continue using a browser that’s not Chromium based. Waterfox is basically an even more privacy-oriented fork of Mozilla’s Gecko, but not to the point of breaking the web like some highly privacy-oriented browsers might.
After importing all my bookmarks and settings, installing my usual extensions, and even recreating my custom theme in Firefox Color, Waterfox is visually identical to my Firefox experience, just minus the analytical tracking in the background. And I have full access to Firefox extensions and themes. Using Waterfox from here on out seems like an easy decision. It even has some features that Firefox doesn’t.
🦁💧 After 3 years I had to change my default desktop browser:
Brave ➡️ Waterfox
Reason: weird keyboard input bugs(?) in Brave for Windows (employer's machine), and of course it only happened to me (no word about it on the Brave forum). Maybe someone was spying on me, or simply a Windows bug.
On #AndroidOS I've installed Fennec (#Firefox) to sync my bookmarks with Waterfox via my #Mozilla account.
Both #Waterfox & Fennec are pretty nice browsers!
And Fennec has add-ons even on mobile 🙃 @Waterfox
how are you doing? will respond to you tomorrow, if there will be such.
I've been recently trying to be active on all 3 famous Twitter alternatives (Bluesky, Threads, and here). I do check notifications and do reply if needed.
switched from @Waterfox & @Vivaldi 's AppImage versions to .deb, have some issues with syncing, will report tomorrow.
good night, see you next time! I will post probably tomorrow unlike today.
#Waterfox turns 13 today! It all started with a post on @Overclock.net letting everyone know about a side project for a 64-Bit build of a certain open source browser and the rest is history! 🎂

"This article isn't specifically about #privacy issues only, it's about promises that are being broken, which might be about privacy. It is also about the lack of user freedom, as in the choice to enable or disable features, such as automatic updates, or forced usage of third party services, or software that the user generally is unaware of or don't have a say about."
@freemo great! I wonder how it compares with #Waterfox which I'm using in conjunction with #Mate and #Plasma under #Linux (because it actually supports Global Menus, unlike firefox and other derivatives). It also has better privacy presets than #firefox proper.
This is going to be a hard truth, and it is not going to be popular either.
I just finished building my own copy of Mozilla Firefox. I disabled, everything, and I do mean, everything. When done, there were no user settings, not even the simple back, forward, and home button. I stripped Gecko down to its core components, so the only function was to render websites.
You cannot optimize Firefox further (I don't think). I gutted it like a fish, and I think pushing it further would have broken it
Infosec friends are unanimous: if you're using Chrome, you want to visit chrome://settings/adPrivacy and turn off Ad Topics, Site-Suggested Ads, and Ad Measurement.
IMPORTANT: you must do this for each of your Chrome profiles, since it's not a global setting.
Every time I reinstall #Firefox I'm reminded that #Mozilla deliberately fails to sync my default search engine from my other browsers. I will probably continue to use Firefox until Mozilla dies, but honestly their death can't come soon enough.
So, followers of mine from Mastodon and Revolt, are already know that I recently tried out #Waterfox .
That's right and you know what? I like it!
Looks beautiful :-)
Enjoy a faster Vivaldi after a massive #code refactoring 🎉
Our new version on #desktop is now faster, especially when you open a new window⚡️
By rendering browser windows through React portals, we’ve reduced #memory usage, and significantly improved overall #performance.
Whether you use #Shortcuts, Menus, or Quick Commands, the portal-aware functionality ensures a noticeable increase in #speed when opening a new window 🏃
I'm glad I switched over to using this place more, feels like Twitter is having so many issues these days it's something to laugh at when it does go down.
