@SweetAIBelle@landley@OS1337 After all I got my trusty #VAIO#P11Z and it really struggles running #BunsenLabsLinux due to #Intel's feckup aka. non-willingness to support the #GMA500 properly so instead I'd rather take advantage of that 1600768px screen and just go full #TUI, since it's basically a dual 800768 screen...
You can see it's old because it still has a #FrontSideBus and used a dedicaded #Chipset (or rather #PCH known as #US15W - but could also be married with other Chipsets like #nVidia#Ion - and only a single core and #HyperThreading...
Because there is no valid reason for that shit, when #Panasonic#Toughbook CF-19 were #waterproof with toolfree swappable battery and devices like the #Sony#Vaio#P11Z were thin & light yet had toolfree-swappable batteries...
This evening I took out my #Vaio TZ11 to install #Haiku on it, and right away I noticed a few things, some of which I had forgotten:
The screen is damn good for the time, even if it's “only” 1366x768 the color rendition is great and the physical size a small-ish 11” which means pixel density is quite good.
Best keyboard ever in a laptop, IMO. The touchpad does not compare well with newer ones.
It's smaller than a MacBook, although not thinner than an Air, and lighter while having more ports, a SD card reader, and a combo DVD/CD-RW drive.
The spinning hard drive (I had no money for an SSD in 2007 prices) is surprisingly silent.
Haiku flies despite the rotating hard drive. The install took just a few minutes. Also: all hardware is supported except the webcam (which was painful to get working also on Linux).
Maybe I should pick my #Vaio TZ11MN and have the latest #Haiku beta installed on its spinning rust drive. It has already some old install, but from years back, seems worth a shot to try again after @ActionRetro's video the other day :thonking:
