Burn #Microsoft's Office! 🔥 Their proprietary #docx format is the worst for the productivity of people using #OpenStandards. :fsf:
I'm trying to incorporate the #corrections of a #proofreading service with @libreoffice, but opening their .docx file uses all the CPU time 📈 for no traceable reason.
Bad enough that they don't accept any other file type 🙄 and I have to adopt corrections manually, now their document steals all my computing resources.
I wish there was an option in Teams for "Deliver this message in business hours". Outlook equally sucks at this – what controls there are seem to only work if your Outlook is open.
It really irks me when I need to throw a question to a colleague on my Monday when it's still their Sunday and they answer me within about 10 minutes. I'd rather set some option to say "Only send this chat message when the person is in business hours."
Want to improve #WorkLife balance? Demand companies like #Microsoft give you options to control delivery based on a recipient's business hours, rather than flinging messages at them at 9pm on a Sunday.
So the problem I see with the "FDA for AI" model of regulation is that it posits that AI needs to be regulated separately from other things.
I fully agree that so-called "AI" systems shouldn't be deployed without some kind of certification process first. But that process should depend on what the system is for.
A final kind of risk that might not be adequately handled by existing frameworks is the risks that widely available media synthesis machines pose to the information ecosystems.
Here, I keep hoping for some way to set up accountability: what if #OpenAI were actually accountable for everything #ChatGPT outputs? (And #Google for #Bard and #Microsoft for #BingGPT?)
Maybe we already have what we need, maybe there's something to add.
#microsoft keeps pushing this #windows 11 22H2 update that fails to boot (freezes while booting), and after a couple of forced restarts it undoes the changes it made, restoring the 21H2 version. It's really annoying. It seems Microsoft lost some expertise in making #operatingsystems
I found it hard to key in the installation ID at first because of the weird keypad in the virtual phone app I use. The IVR was like: hey, I can see you're struggling. Don't worry, just press this key if you need a bit more time. For context, the installation ID is a 54 digit number split into 9 groups of 6 digits. I probably couldn't have done it without those prompts for extra time. #accessibility#Microsoft#MicrosoftActivation#OfficeXP
So the new Instagram text thing is reported to have ActivityPub support and instead of being happy at all the new labor that could potentially be coming to the standard, Mastodon people are now actively encouraging instances to not federate with any of that stuff. K.

There are multiple virtues in play here. Consider that I boycott #Microsoft for 50+ reasons. Let’s say MS wants to do something good & they make changes so 5 of the reasons I boycott them go away. Well I’m still boycotting MS for 45+ other reasons. FB, #Cloudflare, MS, #Amazon, Twitter, etc, are socially detrimental & abuse the data they get their hands on to the full extent possible.
#Microsoft has announced that it's planning to automatically upgrade all #Windows10 users to the latest version 22H2 release starting next month. All prior versions of Windows 10 will have officially reached end of support as of June 13, 2023. https://tchlp.com/3q2fb1a
