This version is still based on the original MIDI file, but is more of an #Electro beat with a bunch of added live-tweaked stuff, including a fairly restrained TD-3 bassline.
Check out @keefmarshall great music. His groundbreaking #Image2BonkWave track & then just click next to discover an amazing musician that you've probably never heard.
Not your genre? Click Next. No harm no foul. I gurantee that you'll find some #music that you love.
Feeling cheeky? Click Random to a random spot on the webring.
Any #BonkWave musicians or aficionados that aren't already in the Matrix chat?
Let me know, and I can invite you or keep you posted about major updates. We are currently discussing next steps. This includes future compilations and hosting of existing ones.
There are ~50 hours left to vote in the Bandcamp/Faircamp poll.
@kel totally understandable. I would suggest following the #BonkWave & #Image2BonkWave hashtags. I'll also try to remember to keep you in the loop.
The next compilations will be people remixing someone else's track from the first 2 compilations. So if there's one that really strikes your fancy, you can contact that musician directly and start working on that.
The other direction that we're actively working on is #Image2BonkWave
I've been thinking about how to draw a distinction between ethical and non-ethical generative #Art
For instance, I like using the bit art & mandelbrot bots to start collages. These are randomly and mathematically derived. Ethical, imo.
Contrast that against the LLM's which are built off of stealing people's labor (sound familiar?). Largely unethical, imo.
Another sort of generative art that I'm involved with is #DataSonification & #Image2BonkWave. These use a copy left python script and open source DAW's producing #CreativeCommons music. Ethical and quite badass, imo.
@CyberneticForests That's awesome, I can't wait to hear what else you come up with! I am still absolutely loving both "Worlding" & The Organizing Committee albums!
:hearthands:
Did you know that your work & the #DataSonification stuff that #NASA is doing inspired #Image2BonkWave?

If you click on #Image2BonkWave you should be able to see some examples and discussion, but @yonder created a python script that takes an image and outputs a MIDI file.
And this one from @keefmarshall. It has the added benefit of the scrolling from soundcloud app, which basically creates a music video from a picture of a sunset.
My latest #Image2BonkWave experiment is a collaboration with @SrRochardBunson, who provided the image that forms the basis of the composition.
As with previous experiments none of this would have been possible without @yonder's amazing #Python script doing the hard work of #Image2MIDI conversion.
As always no MIDI notes were harmed (aka altered), only suitable instruments and plugins were used to best represent the vision of the original artist.
@yonder wrote a python script and at least 4 people have already used it to turn pictures into music with no AI involved! The same sort of thing that NASA is using to hear black holes!
@keefmarshall is the latest one and you have to click to Soundcloud to get the full picture. The track sonicates from left to right and pans as it progresses.
