#GamedevProtip: Your game needs a pause button, and the sooner you add it the better, otherwise you'll struggle with which code should and should not run.

This is the real world: the phone rings, there is a knock at the door, a child needs help, a bathroom break, etc. Games are entertainment and need to take a backseat to life.

If the player is not actively engaged in online PvP, the pause button needs to work.

#GamedevProtip: Your game needs gamepad support, and the earlier you add it the better your game will be.

"But kbd/mouse is better because..." -- Forget the "kbd/mouse master race" mentality. Let players choose.

Players may choose gamepad due to limitations in environment, hardware, accessibility issues, or just preference.

Even if you never plan to port to console, with the rise of Steamdeck and other handheld PCs people will want to run your game on hardware that lacks kbd/mouse.

#gamedevprotip: If your game supports mouse on PC, make sure to test and support using a touchpad with no external mouse.

No one expects to be a competitive FPS player with a trackpad, but puzzle games, point and click adventures, city builders, factory builders, and many others greatly benefit from being comfortably playable on a laptop on the couch, while traveling, etc.
