@KydiaMusic knowing that spotify paid mere mortals nothing and is about to pay even less — roughly what might an actual artist get from buying a cd? buying a download? buying a t-shirt?
But Bandcamp is a middle man I can upload my tracks to directly. I have a digital distributor that not only gets my music on all the major (and minor) streaming services world wide, but also makes them available for purchase on places like iTunes or Amazon. So there are two middle men: CDBaby (my Digital Distributor) and iTunes, for instance:
Soundrop, the affordable distributor I've used to release music to streaming services, after being acquired by CDBaby, had a ton of their staff laid off and has been seemingly left abandoned. I have friends who have 2 month old unanswered emails to them and many issues trying to release more music. I just issued takedowns on all my music through soundrop. No use sticking around on an unreliable platform.
@donutshoes#CDBaby sold my #music online in the early 2000s and was my gateway to digital distribution. A couple years ago they told me they would either mail back or destroy their last remaining physical copies of my stuff as they had allegedly run out of warehouse space.
Emotional times... I just uploaded a song to #cdbaby for release this October! So first of all: 'Woohoo!' I'm back in the saddle - a bit. 💪 I was going to release this single last year, but then had to cancel it because I had a major #mecfs relapse after my second COVID jab. So fingers crossed that nothing similar happens this year, hence the 'Eeek!’ 😰 It's a song I recorded back in the 00s. I haven't recorded anything new since I got ill, singing is still impossible. 😔 @music#halloween
