‘Ascension’ is the first ICM photo I’ve taken that I was thrilled with. I was out taking sunset photos but the sky wasn’t quite what I wanted, so I started to experiment with the setting sun’s reflection over Bellingham Bay. When I saw I could create this beam of light, I got super excited! I played around some more with positioning the beam until I found this shot.
Overheard in a coffee and tea shop in the Pacific Northwest during rainy season on an unusually bright, clear late November morning as sun fills the place through large east- and south-facing windows, slowing down the baristas who have trouble seeing what they're doing: "I know I should like the sun, but it's really disorienting."
Via today's Cascadia Daily News newsletter: "One thing to note is that Whatcom County, so far, has the second-highest turnout in what has been an uninspired election year statewide. The only place where voters are outperforming Whatcom's 52% turnout is Columbia County, which only has 2,863 registered voters."

I picked up some medlar at the Bellingham Farmers Market, but they need to go through the bletting process (aka, go rotten) for a few weeks before the fruit's interior is ready to eat and/or use in jams or fruit butter.
Medlar, aka "open-arse fruit," were popular for centuries and featured in Chaucer's "Canterbury Tales" and Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet," but they fell out of fashion and mostly forgotten about by the 1950s.

The all-electric VanHool motorcoaches used on the Amtrak Cascades connecting bus service between Seattle and Bellingham, which can do the nearly 200-mile round-trip on a single charge, are super quiet and comfy.
I just calculated everything we paid for #SubduedSocial hosting & domain registration this year so far, and our donation rate is looking good enough to cover costs with a bit of safety margin. So I went ahead and made a voluntary #LandTax donation to the Lhaq'temish Foundation equivalent to 10% of our hosting costs. I haven't found a way to do recurring donations to them or any other local native nonprofit, so I'll just do it periodically by hand. https://nativegov.org/news/voluntary-land-taxes/https://www.lhaqtemish.org/
#HappyThanksgiving everyone in #BellinghamWA and in particular on our #SubduedSocial Mastodon instance. In recognition that we live on the ancestral lands of our neighbors the #Lummi, #Nooksack, and other #CoastSalish peoples, I made another voluntary #LandTax donation to the Lhaq'temish Foundation equivalent to 10% of our hosting costs and domain registration fees over the past 6 months.
