@Some_Emo_Chick This also explains (to me anyway) why I've been dragging my heels at getting an Instagram account. I got a Tiktok one and I'm wondering if I should delete that? I hate being manipulated by billionaires.
@doomscroller It means they get the user data ready for the person to just log in via Instagram into Threads without the user having to actually go through any kind of account creation process
@Some_Emo_Chick is it also automatically creating FB accounts? Because I feel like I'm seeing a lot of "new to facebook" under suggested friends lately
@Some_Emo_Chick@steve I thought it was generally understood that all Instagram accounts were queued for Threads accounts. Threads is a subsidiary Instagram service.
@Some_Emo_Chick That's THE key factor. Zero friction to establishing your social graph on the new platform. None of the other Twitter refugee sites have the ability to make it so easy. As soon as anyone I follow on Instagram signs onto Threads we're connected.
@Some_Emo_Chick they are transparent about this using IG accounts, and even prompt you to just follow all the same people when you first use it. This seems completely fine and above board, not sure what about this is surprising or alarming to folks.
@Some_Emo_Chick Whaaaa? this whole thing is getting more and more ridiculous, Zuck is making a total fool of himself! I was already shocked to read that you can't delete your Threads account without deleting your IG account but this is ten times worse. Sooo manipulative and desperate! 😡
@Some_Emo_Chick When you create your Threads account, it shows everyone you follow on Instagram, so you can like "pre-follow" them and when they create their Threads acc, you will already be a follower. It's probably not a shadow account and they just got confused by this, as I got too when I created mine.
It is astonishing how Zuckerberg hasn’t been arrested under the Espionage Act.
This guy keeps creating products that not only infringe on our rights, but deliberately and methodically invades them.
I can tell you when I initially signed up for a FB account, their privacy policy said words to the effect of:
We have the right to collect non-personally identifying usage data, such as which browser you use, how often you use the FB app, and what you post on your FB page.
It said nothing about using facial recognition software to track me anywhere in the world, to zoom in on the clothes I wear, or track my vacations, hack into my home network, phone, and computer hard drives, and illegally collect and sell that info to marketing companies.
Now, this ass-hat develops an app that collects literally everything on all of your devices, without permission, and NOBODY stops him?
@Some_Emo_Chick Maybe it’s just genuinely popular? I know nobody on here from “real life”, but I know a load of people who joined threads because it was connected to instagram.
@Some_Emo_Chick
Next Twitter can create shadow accounts for those Threads shadow accounts and then Threads create shadow accounts for those Twitter shadow accounts and so on until our power system collapses under the stress
