I've just finished reading "Relayd and Httpd mastery" by @mwl and it cemented my plan to move to . https://test.sapka.me is already working and https://michal.sapka.me will soon follow. I like the Relayd + Httpd + acme-client setup much better than whatever tries to achieve by trying to be everything.

It's the first book of his I've read - "Absolute FreeBSD" and "Ed mastery" were also great. I don't know of any other indie tech writer but I dig his writing so much! The fact, that he may be the only writer treating (my recent love) seriously makes it even easier. After finishing "Relayd.." I've instantly bought his "Tarsnap mastery". Highly recommended!

I've been thinking about an adventure with and guess what? MWL is working on a book about it!

In the meantime (so: yesterday) I migrated my personal laptop from to . I had to force legacy UEFI and disable Nvidia but everything just works. WiFi, hibernation, even media keys. I am floored!

bristle,

@ms @mwl “Ed Mastery” is clearly supposed to be a joke but it completely changed how I approach Unix-like systems after I connected the history of Ed to more “modern” tools.

“Oh! This is why sed, grep, and vim are the way they are,” and everything started clicking.

Bless this man.

jamesrylandmiller,

@ms @mwl His ZFS books are worth the $ too. I frequently reference them for obscure commands and best practices.

@jamesrylandmiller @mwl Yeah, they are on my "to-read" list.
Too bad ZFS is not supported on OpenBSD.

@ms thanks, glad I could help!

@ms What makes you so fond of OpenBSD that you even move away from FreeBSD? Would be glad if you could tell some of the hightlights.

@louis
for server: it wowed me when PF automatically opened 443 when I enabled it in Relayd. And the fact that it has Httpd/Relayd/Acme-client which are all I need for my need. I've got 99 problems but Nginx ain't one (soon). Also, seems like OpenBSD community is even smaller - I love small, tight communities.

for desktop: hardware support. Due to AX200 wifi card I have constant crashes, lack of hibernation, speed up to WiFi G on FreeBSD. It all works on OpenBSD. I don't care about nvidia, but wifi on a laptop is a must.

@ms Great read. I'm surprised that OpenBSD has such good hardware support. I'll definitively try it out next time I have to install a server to setup.
