@cadey This is the 4th generation of the internet that I have seen. First was text-only pre-web (which may have been preceeded by a BBS era), then first version of the web, then the centralized internet of everything concentrated on a hadnful of sites which is what is dying now. We are going through the pains of that death and the birth of what comes next.
@cadey Indeed. The web forums and instant messengers of yesteryear are mostly forgotten now. The current generation of communications is overrun by massive corporations that have grown into monsters that overstep their bounds with arrogant impunity...
Basically, there's a transitional phase where things are falling apart but the new thing that will replace it hasn't been formed. In this period between we get morbid symptoms - not very pleasant.
