I posted a few weeks ago about how people were leaving empty nitrous cylinders lying around and wondering if they could be reused for something.

Someone left two of them in the gutter of my house last night, so I grabbed them to get a better look at them.

They are heavy steel. The end caps look like they're 1/4" thick. The label on the tanks say they are rated 120 bar working pressure (1740 psi). That's a lot of pressure!

@MLE_online I remember reading an article about how UPS was researching compressed air regenerative braking for their delivery trucks. Wonder if that'd work on a bicycle?

I cut the bottom off of one to see if they would make a suitable wind chime like the larger gas cylinders do, but the tone and richness of sound just isn't right

Those aren't normally considered "disposable", the gas house that fills them expects to get them back, and charges if they're lost.

So the ones dumped by your house were likely stolen. If you can figure out which gas supplier owns them, they'll probably be grateful if you can return them.

@RealGene no, these are not for exchange. The cylinder has a prominent "do not refill" stamp. Plus I see so many of these discarded, each with its own silly branding. These are meant to be disposed of

Ahh. Something like this?

@RealGene precisely like that

Ok. Back in my day, we'd go to the welding supply house and buy a 40-lb cylinder. If they asked us what we were using it for, we'd say "lancing goats".
Cost about $50, and we DID have to bring the cylinders back.

@RealGene They must have tightened up access to that, leading to these new, smaller, throwaway ones

@MLE_online can you make jets for one of the bikes?
