@BlackAzizAnansi 2020 was not better to me. Trump was massively botching the pandemic response. It turned out that a lot of people I knew had misrepresented themselves to me (“good Christian folk”). My youngest was born and I have a lot of stress about the existence they will have. Biden won, but not to the level that meant Americans rejected fascism.
2020 broke my heart a little. 2024 is a recovery year.
@BlackAzizAnansi In 2020 I was constantly freaking out that my newborn son would get Covid and die. Work was a shit show because we didn’t have childcare. I didn’t see family or friends for months. 2024 couldn’t be more different. We’ve traveled, had date nights, playdates for the kids, international visitors, beautiful restaurant meals.
@BlackAzizAnansi We at least had hope that the future could finally turn to the better, as we hunkered down and collectively battled the external threat.
@BlackAzizAnansi in New Zealand we managed to keep Covid out, and had a public health policy that was largely following science. We managed 18 months, and it was great.
More people were paying attention to BLM and being careful about covid. The Palastine situation hadn't escalated into outright genocide. Russia hadn't invaded Ukraine. Roe v Wade was still a thing. There was less anti-LGBTQIA+ and anti-women legislation and policies being put in place in various countries. The world had 4 extra years to deal with the climate and nature crises.
