@inquiline Thinking of every discussion of "successful" academics (or, you know, any other career where individual "success" is an externally ascribable quality) and the spouse keeping said success's home life in order.

The step from culturally-specific familial codings of domestic labor as institution, to institution as infrastructure, would seem, in this case esp., a mincing one.

Cf. Annemarie Mol's work on eating as excorporation of those who grow and prepare our food.

Metaphor doesn't quite work. When someone cuts into something, you're supposed to be surprised that it's actually cake. For STS people they are surprised if it's not actually infrastructure.

@inquiline @richpuchalsky I'm glad i'm not the only one going "is there a limit to what STS ppl will call infrastructure? no? ok alright then ..."

@davidthewid @inquiline @richpuchalsky It's just a methodology, once a provocative one, so this has to be the case.

But then...is there a limit to what social scientists will call "just a lens"? 😄
