Floridians are fleeing the state bc the red🩸state is failing them:

A Tampa dad has nearly given up after his son who's autism was dropped from MDCD *1 of 460K children in FL.

Chaz, was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder *nonverbal. Peterson said his son tried attending public school, but saw success in ABA therapy, which had been completely covered by MDCD under the Dept of Children & Families during COVID. He'd been attending ABA therapy 5 days a week.

Florida's future is akin to #DeathSantis' disastrous pres. bid:

~500K left FL in 2022. Contributing to their move was a perfect storm of soaring INSUR costs, hostile pol ENVIR, worsening traffic & extreme weather, acc to interviews with >dozen recent transplants & longtime residents who left in the past 2 yrs.

"I thought FL would be an easier lifestyle --didn’t expect it to be literally 100 degrees at night. It was incredibly difficult to make friends/very expensive.”

@KimPerales
They should have done their homework and investigated FL cost and population trends. Feds have all this data online.

@KimPerales almost 500,000 people left but 750,000 arrived

i hate Florida but this is the same BS as people say about NY. Any state that is a major first stop for new immigrants is going to have massive out-migration as people get their feet under them and find opportunities in the interior. This has been true for hundreds of years on the US East Coast

@stevenbodzin I somewhat agree, it will be interesting to see the numbers for 2023, esp. in Florida, since there are so many issues. Many Floridians who would like to leave, don't have the wherewithal to move.

@KimPerales

It's a complex issue.
Families have been manipulated into thinking the public schools can't offer good services to Autistic children (cue private industry takeover of services). ABA providers have a record of questionable results/methods as well as fraudulent billing. From the 2020 DOD report:

"...(to date), the total restitution based on these ABA services
investigations to DHA is $19,783,035....DHA has
recouped $1,867,509 for improperly billed ABA services for this same period"
