joe,

@rasterweb I'm unfortunately fully expecting v3 to either be subscription-only or do the thing where there is a perpetual license option but it's so expensive that it's a little ridiculous.

@joe I'm expecting no V3. 😢

@rasterweb You know, I tried to like the Affinity suite, bought V1 & V2, but at the end of the day it was just bad to use. It felt exactly like the sort of software you get when someone invents a technique (e.g a file format) and then tries to monetise it by building applications around it, rather than building applications to accomplish a task, and designing things, like file formats, to support that. So everything about the app is limited by the capabilities of the original novel “trick”.

@metaning I use Affinity Photo daily. The number one feature is that it is not subscription based software. I don't love it, but it does what I need it to do. I was previously a user of Photoshop for 30 years (never a subscriber!)

I didn't really use Designer or Publisher though they seemed okay. I use Inkscape despite the issues it has, but haven't found a non-subscription image editor better than Affinity Photo... yet.

@rasterweb I tried to use Photo and Publisher, but they just never felt right, and with version 2 losing the ability to have multiple documents in separate windows (because Windows doesn’t), they just became janky windows apps on Mac. My old CS5 adobe apps remained more logical n the way they worked. Honestly after struggling with Affinity for a-number of years, I’m at the edge of subscribing to Adobe, as much as I hate subscription software.

@metaning Ugh... I really do not want to subscribe and pay Adobe every month for something I am not making money doing (editing my own photos) so I'll keep using Affinity Photo for now but if it too turns into a subscription I'll abandon it.

I hold out hope it will not go to a subscription model because I think a large part of their customer base chose it specifically because it was not a subscription. (At least I hope so.)
