If you are a member of an extreme party or an extremist government then just what counts as extreme? Guy Venables cartoon nails this idea.

@IndyRichard this isn't far off - remembering the images of people holding "say no to hate" signs getting roughed up, their signs destroyed at a Trump rally. Very telling.

DanHakimi,
@DanHakimi@mastodon.social avatar

@IndyRichard if you only want the Jews to stop their end of the war, but want to give Hamas carte blanche to continue killing Jews, then yes, you're an extremist.

Hamas has turned down every ceasefire deal. They've explicitly stated that they would repeat October 7th at every opportunity, even with a ceasefire. And their charter is still strongly opposed to any form of peace or negotiation, and insists that all Jews around the world must be killed.

War sucks. What's your solution?

IndyRichard,
@IndyRichard@mastodon.scot avatar

@DanHakimi War does suck yet people who oppose war in the west are called extremists. I'd suggest sanctions against Israel but don't suppose you'd agree so all I'll do is wish you a good day.

DanHakimi,
@DanHakimi@mastodon.social avatar

@IndyRichard It's not extremism to oppose war, it's extremism to demand that the side who was invaded surrender unconditionally. Sanctioning Israel because Hamas won't agree to a ceasefire is, in fact, an evil, extremist, disgusting position, and I hope you eventually learn why that is.

I hope we have an actual peace, where both sides can rest easy at night.

@DanHakimi@mastodon.social avatar

@IndyRichard

condescension is a way I treat children. You're an adult, you should know better. I'm not sure, do you? I'm looking for somebody who wants peace, you're just co-opting the language of peace to demand a one sided surrender and continued violence from the other side. You're a villain. Do you understand that or not?

DanHakimi,
@DanHakimi@mastodon.social avatar

@lettosprey @IndyRichard I'm not here to justify any genocide, I don't want a genocide to happen any more than you. But let's talk about the world we're living in.

War is awful. Civilians die. But one side here has intentionally targeted innocent civilians, and the other has not. One side has bragged about targeting innocent civilians and holds them for ransom, and the other has taken exceptional measures to minimize the civilian death toll compared to any other war.

DanHakimi,
@DanHakimi@mastodon.social avatar

@lettosprey @IndyRichard

Hamas is very happy to watch civilians die on both sides. See Sinwar: death on one side is his direct goal; death on the other is nothing to him but good PR: https://allisrael.com/hamas-leader-sinwar-reportedly-satisfied-with-course-of-war-confident-civilian-deaths-will-force-stop

DanHakimi,
@DanHakimi@mastodon.social avatar

@lettosprey @IndyRichard

The civilian death toll is obviously still higher than it should be; it should be zero. This means peace.

A one-sided surrender will only allow Hamas to do as it insists it will; continue targeting Israeli civilians. If you want Israeli civilians to continue dying, then stop pretending you want peace. For peace, you must oppose Hamas.

Return the hostages and remove Hamas from power. That's the path to peace, not your wicked holocaust inversion.

nanoelquant,

@IndyRichard @DanHakimi do you have any feasible plans how to stop Hamas from killing Israelis?

DanHakimi,
@DanHakimi@mastodon.social avatar

@nanoelquant @IndyRichard yeah, some ideas:

  • destroy the al qassam brigades (many of them have already been destroyed).
  • remove Hamas from power, find a system of governance that doesn't actively teach palestinian children to murder Jews at all costs; there have been several more specific proposals here, including clan systems and former politicians in Palestine who think peace is a good idea.
DanHakimi,
@DanHakimi@mastodon.social avatar

@nanoelquant @IndyRichard

  • a buffer zone; this would obviously not be ideal, for several reasons, but if Hamas can't be removed, physical safety is the next best thing.
  • re-occupying Gaza. A last resort, since it's already failed, but ending the occupation failed harder. Occupation is not a nice thing, of course, but Germany and Japan were deradicalized
  • replacing UNRWA with an organization that will not encourage palestinians to attack innocent Jewish civilians or "martyr" themselves.
