Last night, I dreamed about working on and eventually coming up with a complete solution to a (simple) programming problem. When I woke up, I realized the problem was entirely fictional, so the solution is useless.

@siracusa People have gotten VC funding with worse. Just gotta get your pitch together

robprentiss,

@siracusa I'm glad I'm not the only one this dream haunts...

Every time: EUREKA! Wait... that's not a thing...

tve,

@siracusa You know you are dreaming, if your only problem is solving a complex technical problem.

Reality is much more surreal. There is a simple solution to a technical problem, but after it passes through corporation processes, it does not fix anything but creates five new problems, three widely used abbreviations and a new gatekeeper role for their agile process.

@siracusa this is like finding a way to destroy the Death Star and then realizing there is no Death Star. Real bummer, you should build one and give it to the baddies 😂

@siracusa No! It’s a solution in search of a problem. Our business is full of them 😀.

Henry_David_Throwed,

@siracusa... good job.

@siracusa A shame. One of the best solutions to a tricky problem I ever devised came to me in a dream. I woke up and thought "Oh my god, I think that would work!" And when it did, I was so pleased with my subconscious lizard brain.

@siracusa I’ve been there, John. In my dreams I’m a brilliant programmer only to wake up and realize I’m just average programmer Rob. 😃

RedtheBean,

@siracusa now imagine you were an ass hole and realized you could get enough people to BELIEVE it was a real problem and then sold them your tool to address it... lol

@siracusa the emotion attached in the dream state, the urgency, makes a lot of things seem vitally real that don’t hold up in the face of logic once awake.

But the situation itself might seem plausible.

wonkeythemonkey,

@siracusa Better than a fictional solution to a real problem, I suppose.

Actionscientist,

@siracusa sounds like it time for a vacation!

Caryjm,
@Caryjm@mastodon.social avatar

@siracusa Yep, dreams don't follow real logic so insights like this are highly suspect.

tal,
@tal@mastodon.social avatar

@siracusa sure you've woken up?

joshstrange,
@joshstrange@mastodon.social avatar

@siracusa I hate “programming dreams”. I always go in circles to try and solve a vague, fake problem. At least you solved yours. Normally that just leads to a restless night for me until I can quiet my brain.
