@RadicalAnthro it’s #journalism as it should be, essential #storytelling that is missing so terribly from mainstream #media, I am surprised to see it come from the #BBC who generally have been so biased on #Gaza coverage. I am concerned as #UNRWA pulls out end of Feb, there’ll be hundreds of thousands of untold stories as #Palestinians die faster and the West just “resigns” itself to #genocide complicity, in an ultimate move of moral bankruptcy and cowardice. I hope WE continue to bear witness🙏🏽

@sheislaurence I share all your fears.

@RadicalAnthro @sheislaurence

Me too. And yes: this is a piece that everyone should read. I mean, this story alone contains all the heartbreaking horrors, wrongs and injustices of #Gaza. I keep on thinking about Hind and what happened to her, and the ambulance crew, and Hin/ family 💔💔💔

@sheislaurence @RadicalAnthro It is ironic that the Israeli government constantly rails about the BBC's bias against them; there have even been voices calling some BBC journalists anti-semitic - I know a couple of them well and they haven't got an anti-semitic bone in their body. But one studied Arabic and speaks it fluently and is called out for quoting the Gaza Health Service casualty figures and more. The BBC only have two stringers in Gaza with Israel tightly clamping on access for the rest.

@sellathechemist @RadicalAnthro i have a very good friend working with BBC News Arabic and since Oct 7th, she's been a zombie: overworked, underpaid, witnessing horror daily and having the tiniest of margins to report the truth. I am not sure how much longer she'll last.

@sheislaurence @sellathechemist must be an incredibly difficult position 😞

@RadicalAnthro @sellathechemist @pvonhellermannn and this story ends as expected unfortunately: Hind's body has been recovered, along with that of the ambulance staff, murdered by an tank, in spite of prior coordination to save the little girl https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2024/2/10/body-of-6-year-old-killed-in-deliberate-israeli-fire-found-after-12-days

@pvonhellermannn @RadicalAnthro @sellathechemist I am thinking about the mother of course, the only survivor because she wasn't in the car. But I am also thinking of the Red Crescent female member of staff who was on the phone with Hind (and later looped in the mum), all the while, consoling her, reading to her. There is no greater anguish than having to reassure a child with the knowledge you cannot protect them. Imagine the effect on her. On her family. On all those bearing witness.

@sheislaurence @pvonhellermannn @RadicalAnthro Ghastly. Hard to believe.

Chilling clip this morning from a doctor working in a hospital in Rafah this morning on BBC World Service Weekend programme. This was followed by a very good interview by Julian Worricker with the UN's Rapporteur on Adequate Housing, Balakrishan Rajagopal who speaks of domicide - systematic destruction of housing. You'll find it from 27 minutes in.
No doubt dome will find "bias" here… sigh.

@sellathechemist @pvonhellermannn @RadicalAnthro aaah sorry, but the 'some' finding this #BBC segment biased is me. How the presenter is playing dumb 'didn't #Hamas also commit #domicide on Oct 7th?'" like OK, not everyone speaks Latin, but certainly every BBCService presentor of that caliber actually does: domus, domicile, domicide, it's not hard. Basically wasting the time of the UN Rapporteur and mine. I frankly don't care "some #Israeli will find this hard to stomach'.RIP Hind ✊🏽 🌹 .

@sheislaurence @pvonhellermannn @RadicalAnthro I think you’re being hard on Julian. The question was, I’m sure, quite deliberate to underscore the colossal difference between the two situations. It gave the Rapporteur the opportunity to define things more clearly for listeners for whom the term was new. I thought it was an expert piece of questioning which headed off the obvious accusation of anti-Israeli bias. And there was further dissection of the definition of war crimes by the panelists.

@sheislaurence @pvonhellermannn @RadicalAnthro And not to bang on, but another hour on BBC Weekend this morning. Julian Worricker joined by Gwen Hines(?) - head of Save the Children - and the trenchant academic/analyst Rami Kouri - almost a whole hour focusing on Gaza. I still find it hard to see significant bias. Very thought-provoking. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/w172z37q12hpj76

Thank you for sharing all these! Will listen. As a general point, the difference btw R4 and World Service is always quite striking - WS so much better and coming from genuinely different perspectives. Even within R4 there are differences: news and Today programme simply unbearable, some other things better. Guardian, too, mixed: live feed i find good, but many really pro Israel opinion pieces (all the posh centrist columnists basically).
