I’m rewatching starting at season 1, as this fourth season starts rolling out.

During “Nixon’s Women,” I had another one of my -as-hell moments:

Someone on screen (name? Dunno 🤷‍♀️) made a throwaway reference to “Frank Abernathy and his mules” and within fifteen seconds I had paused the show and asked Siri “what was the story with […]”.

The answer turned out to be every bit as interesting as my intuition told me it might be. Thought I’d share:

That mule train thing happened in 1968. It was all recent history when I was born, in the 1970s.

I grew up in the South (USA). I never heard about it, at least not in any way that made an impression.

Is this another one of those memory-hole situations? Or was I just poorly educated, and this is standard high school history stuff for most people?
