i feel like i should host something like a bigbluebutton ... opentalk was the most voted for but is barely used and i think thats because people dont want to login for meetings hmm

Mr_Teatime,

@milan
I'm actually still looking for a reason to check out opentalk. Have access to a paid private BBB server, though, so that's my solution whenever I want a video call.

Is there something that has some of the nice features Zoom has, but not as evil?

For me as a professional streaming service guy, this is:

Full control over audio processing, especially echo cancellation from off in degrees to high, but still at high quality, or no echo cancellation, stereo „Hifi“ mode (bzw. Zoom does not have these on Linux, only Win/Mac).

Decent HD video, or even FullHD at least for chosen speakers (=presenters). Nerdy video options such as encoding bitrates would be a USP.

My clients however would probably like to see things like tools for polls, breakout rooms, and overall ease of use.

Users at home probably really feel positive about exchanging or blurring their background in order not to show so much of their home to others they don't know personally.

People hosting a meeting may be nerds, but these joining the meeting usually are not.

@nielso i think there was some jotsi fork thing that gives at least more aufio controls

Elaborating on my situation: So I work as an audio/streaming professional, I got all the tools to deliver broadcast quality audio from an event, usually via an USB audio interface into the client's laptop. Then comes #msTeams and ruins the audio. 🤪 (Streaming anything RTMP such as into YouTube etc. is a different story and not an issue.)

Zoom and WebEx do better. The latter only ruins the video usually.

Most web-based tools ruin everything.

When the sound is really great on the other sides of the meeting, clients are much more happy to pay me.

I usually go for Zoom if I have the choice, but there are many things that are not great about it. They got the #BigBrotherAward, so yeah…

evalhaik,

@milan doesn't need logins. Send invitation links. Easy peasy!
