You Huo, his uncle and his cousin are transported into a mysterious 'examination' system, where the questions could easily kill any of the examinees. Breaking the rules to test the system, You Huo gets under the skin of Invigilator 001, but the two can't get away from each other.
There's a lot of trying to recover events from the past that are forgotten but relevant to today, which is another trope I love. :)
And there are even actual female characters in this!! Comparing this novel with the small but growing list of danmei I've read, there's a certain similarity to #MisterMelancholyWantsToLeadAPeacefulLife, which I did enjoy greatly but couldn't help noticing it had zero women or girls in it. Cyan Wings, you really had to work to do that and for what...
#GlobalExamination: really enjoying the relationship between the main couple here! They are both rule-breakers and tease each other relentlessly, but despite a huge number of unknowns about the whole situation to begin with, they very quickly start to trust each other and respect each other’s competence.
Plus, You Huo’s cousin goes from wtf-my-cousin-has-a-boyfriend?!?!? to calling Qin Jiu/Invigilator 001 ‘brother’ within about two chapters, and that’s :blobcatchefkiss:
My reading rate for #GlobalExamination has gone right down again now I’m back at work: it feels like I’ve been in the last 10% forever. Still enjoying it, though. I should at least finish it before my HSK II exam in two weeks, to be properly prepared!
#GlobalExamination: I’m charmed by how Yu Wen’s character gets fleshed out in this book. He starts out as the ignoramus little cousin who got through his (real) exams by picking the short answer if there are two long choices and one short, and writing down ‘Answer’ to get two pity points if he really can’t think of anything else. By the end of the book, we’ve seen him use his non-academic skills and make a friend, and then there’s this exchange. 🌕💁🏻♂️👤
Anyway, I finished #GlobalExamination and enjoyed it the whole way through! Infinite flow #danmei with strong MC x strong ML who compete the whole time and like each other a huge amount, a good ensemble cast featuring well-developed female characters, fun puzzles to solve and a happy ending. 😍
@villainousfriend the strange thing is, Cyan Wings CAN write great women! Devil Venerable Also Wants to Know is among my top fav danmei and there's a great ensemble cast INCLUDING women in that story.
