Had a scheduled appointment today a CCS pharmacy for a Covid vaccine booster. When I checked in, I’m told they ran out and they have “supply issues.” No prior notification, despite their having my email and text info. Pathetic roll out and CVS execution

Greetings from the opposite coast. I find it frustrating that I could walk into a supermarket yesterday and get both flu and #COVID #vaccines on the spot — I did — while Dad's CCRC (and another few nearby — I called to check/confirm) still haven't been able to procure supply to vaccinate residents (who are in a higher risk category than me). 😡 💉 😷

rachel_elson,

@erictopol Kaiser had line around the block at SF clinic today, exacerbated probably by strike plans. Took me 1.25 hours to get my 💉🩹.
Apparently last week it was an in+out affair.

@erictopol I had something similar happen at Walgreens on a previous vax...it let me schedule an appt online for a time the pharmacy wasn't even open...the cashier snort-laughed when I told her I scheduled online, "pfft DON'T do that, why would you do that" maybe because that's what EVERY OTHER PERSON DOES TO SCHEDULE NOWADAYS, why do you even have a website 😡

horsepharmer,

@erictopol Pharmacies: don’t confirm appointments until the vaccine is in the fridge.

bitfliq,

@erictopol Walgreens did slightly better in doing a same-day cancellation phone call. I think Walmart has been best for logistics on this so far; intuition is they have lots of slots but count out the number of doses available.

@erictopol cvs is definitely struggling. I suggest making the appointment in person rather than online, ask them for a paper confirmation of your appointment, ignore any automated notifications that your appointment is cancelled, and show up at appointment. It took two attempts, but my wife and I received boosters yesterday…

christiankothe,

@erictopol Same here on 1st attempt, 2nd attempt was via myturn.ca.gov, and led us to a rural pharmacy that didn't have the new vaccines. 3nd attempt at CVS at least resulted in a cancellation notice 2 days prior. 4th attempt with CVS a charm.

Scheduled appointments today at Walgreens were successful, but they were running about 25 minutes behind. We were right on time!

Germany. Our child #1, about 20 days prior to its 12th bday was refused to get the 30mcg adult shot #7. The doc just said "oh 7th dose is too much". The doc also ignored that the child already got a 30mcg ba4/5 dose in February without any issues.

Tl;dr: Even if there seems to have enought vaccine available, parts of the organization still fails.

have some pity for the CEO: how on earth can she have a private jet if she spends money to make customers happy ?

@erictopol There has been limited availability in my area in FL..was only available at Walgreens and CVS...not Publix or Sams or even the local State Health Dept, like it was with prior vax rollouts. Feeling fortunate I received mine at
Walgreens, although I was hoping Novavax would be approved in time. Looking into when it may be a good idea to get Novavax also.

@erictopol Friend had a similar experience at Walgreens yesterday with their husband...very unfortunate...they are trying Costco this morning as a walk-in.

I had scheduled my COVID-19 vaccination with CVS pharmacy online last month. Then a couple days before the date it was cancelled via text message: "CVS Pharmacy: URGENT The updated COVID vaccine is not yet available and your appt must be rescheduled. Reschedule at cvs.com/vaccine". I rescheduled and then again CVS cancelled. I read that CVS is understaffing. Finally I just tried scheduling at Kroger pharmacy online instead, and easily got my vaccination the next day.

Kaiser won't even set appointment it's walk in only.

@erictopol @morecowbell This is why I use a locally owned pharmacy run by an actual pharmacist.

okurth,

@erictopol I got my shot at CVS 2 weeks ago without issues. But the nurse told me that other stores were accepting appointments even though they had no supplies.

I had been turned away at CVS before, for my first booster, for the same reason. I guess that's their policy - make appointments even when they cannot guarantee that they can fulfill it.

vathpela,
@vathpela@better.boston avatar

@erictopol they notified me ahead of time for the first two cancellations, but not for the third one. I think the way they're attempting to up-sell to multiple vaccines was causing them to have a bunch of scheduled appointments where the patient rescheduled the whole thing, but the original flu (etc) shot was still scheduled and became a no-show. Which means they don't really believe in any of what they put on their scheduling page about why you should get them in one go. Terrible.

@jason@logoff.website avatar

@erictopol same. I at least got a call from the Walgreens I booked with, an hour ahead of time. But they claimed they had “refrigerations problems”. There were no storms or power interruptions that day.

@erictopol all the CVSs near me are extremely short-staffed and very busy. I always feel so bad for them.

llorenzin,

@erictopol
CVS seems to be having problems everywhere, at least anecdotally. We went to a Walgreens yesterday and got Moderna with no issues, just a bit of a wait.

But at least now you can get Novavax instead? (I wish we'd held off, but we have a big event mid-October from which we wanted to be two weeks out...)

@erictopol Not a fan of Walgreens by any means, but at least with their Covid rollout, I've not had any issues. Good luck getting it all sorted out my brother!
