No democracy without press freedom.

On , we stand together to defend the fundamental right to press freedom and media independence – and to honour those who have sacrificed their lives to bring us the truth.

But we don't just pay lip service to this ideal. With the European Media Freedom Act, the and the fight against SLAPPs, we're committed to protecting media professionals.

Let's promote a society where the free flow of information is valued and defended.

Pennx,

@EU_Commission what about Greece, not only last in Europe for free/independent news but government threatening journalists!

Here in Wageningen we critically discuss the freedom of press and censorship in a time that democracies are under large pressure factors of war, fake news and post-truth ideologies.

waggers5,

A truly free press is one that isn't just free from government interference, but one that's free from commercial interference and the vested interests of private owners.

The Sun, the Daily Mail, the Daily Express and the likes of GB News are no more "free" than dodgy state media like Russia Today.

alb,

@EU_Commission how can journalists be free without private and confidential communications? How can they be free if their private communications will be scanned? #ChatControl

rticks,

@EU_Commission Dont share links to people still on twitter

giuseppegv,

Dear @EU_Commission,

what about private messaging control?

diraquel,

@EU_Commission how about Hungary?

wisel,

@EU_Commission So how many Brits are actually interested in real and honest news without propoganda bias? Whilst the abominable Daily Mail continues to be have the highest circulation figures, I doubt they’re bothered at all. They like being lied to continually. Also, how many Brits have heard of The Byline Times? A publication recently launched on the premise of accurate and unbiased news?
