@Deus thats a really interesting photo because for years it was argued neonicitinoid insecticides were totally safe on maize as, being a wind pollinated crop, bees don't visit it. Total rubbish of course
@Beedazzled Wow! I don't know about the 'wind pollinated crop' part but by default had simply thought that bees just don't visit maize/corn. Thanks for the info. #TIL
@Deus they get pollen where they can and wind pollinated plants are very generous with their pollen so many, like willow over here, are really important to bees. Scientists can be very blinkered
@Deus Interesting. Corn is wind pollinated (its a grass). But a little searching shows that bees forage in corn fields, especially if pickings are slim elsewhere in the area. So I learned that!
