@Jaden3 2 fabulous choices! I have both in my collection. I love so many kinds of music I would never be able to choose just one favorite.

Jaden3,
@Jaden3@mastodon.social avatar

@Barbramon1 yeah I know so difficult 👌🏾

@Jaden3 I'm stuck in the nineties, I guess, because my two would be R.E.M. - Automatic for the People and Radiohead - OK Computer.

Special mention to an album that me and my wife both loved: Pulp - Different Class

QueenOfCoffee,
@QueenOfCoffee@beige.party avatar

@Tattie @Jaden3 Different Class is up there on my list too. Might also go Tribe Called Quest Low End Theory. I played that album so hard... Or maybe Tanya Donelly's Love Songs For Underdogs

rothko,
@rothko@beige.party avatar

@Jaden3 r.e.m. "life's rich pageant" is one of my favorites... also bob mould is a favorite artist of mine -- hard to pick which of his albums i like best but it's probably "silver age" or "workbook."

@Jaden3 Innervisions is an old favorite of mine, so good!

Remain in Light by Talking Heads is one of my favorites:

airwhale,
@airwhale@mastodon.social avatar

@hopeward @Jaden3

Remain in Light is indeed a classic where Talking Heads are going deep on afrobeats.

A few years ago, Angelique Kidjo brought it back in force by re-recording the album, track by track. She even got afrobeat pioneer Tony Allen to play the drums.

Full circle.

@airwhale @Jaden3 I didn’t know about this, it’s fantastic! Thanks!!

@hopeward

Many haven't, so I try to mention it every chance I get. So good.

Pro tip: The Great Curve is best experienced LOUD! Headphones are fine...

Enjoy!

@Jaden3 you have great taste, young man! The best of Stevie for sure. I have many favorite albums tbh. I’ll start off with my fave Prince album, Sign O’ The Times. Double album, amazing songs, lots of variety.

@Jaden3 One of my favorite artists from my youth (early 80s in high school) is Jane Siberry, a Canadian singer/songwriter: eclectic, fun, kooky, and an amazing artist in her own right.

She has several albums:
Jane Siberry (1981)
No Borders Here (1984)
The Speckless Sky (1985)
The Walking (1987)
Bound by the Beauty (1989)
When I Was a Boy (1993)
Maria (1995)
Teenager (1996)

Here's "Map of the World (Part II)" from The Speckless Sky.

Tool - Lateralus
Rage Against the Machine - RATM
Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
Styx - Paradise Theater
Michael Jackson -Thriller
Maná - En Vivo
Queensryche - Operation: Mindcrime

@Jaden3 Those are great choices, Stevie is way up there with my all-time faves too. But if I can only pick one I gotta go with #Prince's "1999" album. I literally wore out 2 vinyl copies before I bought it on CD LOL 🎶 👍 😁 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYboMkLluKo

JJKrawczyk,
@JJKrawczyk@mastodon.social avatar

@Jaden3
When I got my first FM radio (another conversation; yeah I’m old) one of the first songs I heard was Living for the City. It got under my skin then and remains there. I can still get goosebumps hearing the opening riff.

Jaden3,
@Jaden3@mastodon.social avatar

@JJKrawczyk yeah that song is 💯💯💯💯

doctorLURK,
@doctorLURK@mastodon.social avatar

@Jaden3 Innervisions is an all-timer! "Visions" into "Living For the City" knocks me flat.

Personally I couldn't pick a permanent fave, but at the moment (and for several years now) it's probably Joanna Newsom's third album, Have One On Me. Someday, it'll be a different album. Always fun to think about!

TLB73,

@Jaden3
Dark Side Of The Moon, it like came out when I was born. My folks had a record store, well for the first 3 years of my life..

But Donna Summer is the first song I actually remember. Love to Love You.

I don't have favourites because there is so much awesome music!

Jaden3,
@Jaden3@mastodon.social avatar

@TLB73 I love record stores .shit I spend like hours flicking thru and choosing! We got sum good stores in HTX

@Jaden3 When I was a kid, I found a box of my dad's old vinyl in a closet and thought "this should be funny." Turned out my dad was cool! Three albums I remember were great:

Rufus Thomas, "Walking the Dog"
Wilson Pickett, "The Wicked Pickett"
James Brown, "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag" (2 million seller! Says it right on the cover!)

Jaden3,
@Jaden3@mastodon.social avatar

@Jaden3 My nephew asked me this yesterday. As someone who came of age in the late 80s, early 90s, it’s got to be Doolittle by Pixies.

stevegis_ssg,
@stevegis_ssg@mas.to avatar

@pete @Jaden3

I remember the day that album came out and we were excited to get the new Pixies album and we brought it home and put it on and my head exploded.

pete,
@pete@social.coop avatar

@stevegis_ssg @Jaden3 I remember buying the cassette, putting it on and then taking it out because it was a bit too much. Funny thing is it sounds pretty normal now, but at the time, aged, 15, I’d never heard anything like it.

lilbatscholar,
@lilbatscholar@kolektiva.social avatar

@Jaden3 absolute all time classics. Maybe also Coltrane, A Love Supreme?

lilbatscholar,

@Jaden3 I have listened to different music styles over the years, so it's hard to pick just one. Here's a few:

Wire - Chairs Missing
Brian Eno - Here Come The Warm Jets
Runrig - The Highland Connection
New Model Army - The Ghost of Cain

Been listening to Niteworks recently https://yewtu.be/watch?v=WXCLMClodJg

It's so hard to pick a favorite. I grew up listening to so many different genre's. I love motown of course cuz I grew up in Detroit. In my teens I was more into rock n roll, Bowie, Queen, Led Zepplin etc. Stevie Wonder is a great choice he's such a talented artist. You have a great choice on starting your collection. I love his music.

Jaden3,

This might not be your cup of tea but it is truly an astonishing piece of work for its time. I have the double gatefold original from the seventies. The production is amazing, well worth listening to on good quality headphones. It almost makes your eyeballs roll out of their sockets.

purplepadma,
@purplepadma@beige.party avatar

@Jaden3 OMG I adore both those albums! I used to have SITKOL in double vinyl with a gatefold cover. I imagine my ex has it now, he still has a record player. Also it came out the year I was born. Innervisions I listened to over and over again when I was pregnant with my son, I wonder if any of it made it into his unborn ears?

Jaden3,
@Jaden3@mastodon.social avatar

@purplepadma yeah I got the double album 👍🏾
