I'm so happy Unity decided to self-destruct! I mean, sorry for your losses and all, but... Not only is getting so much great attention, but I swear it's also driven more devs to Mastodon seeking out experienced devs to chat with, collab, follow, and learn from! The community has felt really lively lately!

Yep, and I learned about love2d.org here on Mastodon as a result of their antics, too. There's a lot of tools that will see a well-deserved boost thanks to a singular idiot at Unity who maybe should have listened to his marketing team advisors.

@CodexArcanum I'm a long-time hobbyist gamedev, mostly using unity or hand-rolled engines, and I've just started dabbling in #godotengine. It's been fun so far. There are a few weirdities to learn, but I'm starting to get comfortable now.

I use Godot as it is open source - the devs can't act like Unity has.

I will be creating open source games to give the users the same liberties Godot has given me (but with copyleft licenses).

    @CodexArcanum Woah, that's crazy! I was using Unity a few years ago (for some reason didn't know about Godot). I would definitely make the switch.

    I had been a .Net dev for years so I was looking for a game engine and had settled on Unity - I had no idea they were such a mess at the time though.

    Hey! I'm doing a little gamedev in my free time next to my day job as an embedded developer. I started using Godot a year ago and did a lot of little projects but never finished one by now.
    Currently I'm developing an idea for a city builder. It would be awesome to find some people to talk about Godot and game dev on general!

    @CodexArcanum ha! I had to look that up. Lol. But yeah, something like that but you don't necessarily have to have a specific goal (tho it helps). For 100 days you have to do something #gamedev related. Learning, coding, audio, marketing... and then blog about it to keep you honest. I always pick the last 100 days of the year and came away with some pretty neat projects.
