Do I need to carry a family's load of groceries home? Yes! And I've got an e-bike for that. Carry one or two kids to a place in the rain/snow/whatever and it's less than 7-10 miles round-trip? e-bikes! Why would we need two cars, why would we schedule our lives around even depending on one car? I get that "not everyone" can do this, but e-bikes are spanning the gap from here to where more people can ➕ they have been scrapping that together with nearly zero policy backing for over a decade.
And at the other end of governments getting off of their asses and recognizing bikes as a mode of transportation, lies the viability of fast & frequent transit serving dense neighborhoods instead of craters of parking lots, the end of the dominance of fossil fuels in the world's economies & oil barons' thumbs on the scale of every f'n thing. @enobacon Ebikes are definitely a good alternative to gas-guzzling cars...and far cheaper. No more registration, or fuel, and upkeep is far cheaper.
eTrikes are excellent for folk who have problems with their balance, and have trailers or tray fronts perfect for markets.
@Tooden people are like "but how do I carry a cake?"!!! 🙃 if your transportation budget per capita is $10k/yr and the other option is the death of our species I think we can figure something out.
@enobacon They should ask couriers who deliver food, how best to carry a cake. There is no guarantee that a cake will arrive intact, if carried in a car. It's all about the container and the care taken.
@Tooden also many people could very soon live much closer to a cake shop and grocery and piano teachers and whatever, besides having more frequent transit options and that associated reach.
