Now that I know that I’m not the last person on earth still cooking rice in a pot on the stove, I have more questions.

Of those of you who also cook rice on the stove, who pre-soaks their rice? What’s your method for determining how much water to use? Salt before or after steaming? Who adds a pat of butter? #cooking

@elfkin Sometimes I presoak, sometimes I don't. I just put in water until it "looks right" - humans have been cooking without scientific measurements for thousands of years so I don't feel any need to be scientific. I rarely salt my rice at all. Sometimes I use butter, usually I don't. It all ends up good.

@bluGill I admire your ability to eyeball it. While I manage this trick with doughs and batters, it eludes me with rice.
